Damn, Deer Hunter is a movie I’ve always wanted to watch because it looked interesting. I may be rethinking that now. Don't waste your time.

Deer Hunter was phenomenal. What’s wrong with you people?
Don't get too worked up over it, Kid. Most people just don't have the attention span to sit through a "boring" movie AKA a masterpiece character study drama without any action or stupidity to make them laugh.
They're all just a bunch of liberal cocksuckers anyway.

One of the more intolerant movie watchers I’ve come across speaking on the intolerance of others is rich. I love a good character piece when they are presented in an interesting way - The Deer Hunter failed to be interesting though.

I side with Lionheart on this one, I had Deer Hunter at 4. Pacing is a bit of an issue at the start but De Niro delivers an outstanding performance. It was a brave film to make as it was one of the first to represent America's disillusionment with the Vietnam War. While I like Born On The Fourth Of July and We Were Soldiers more when dealing with what happens on the other side of war it's still essential viewing for war film buffs.

I really need to start giving notices when I am making a joke. I thought the liberal cocksuckers bit was a dead giveaway.
In what way am I intolerant though!?!? I only hate every comedy movie ever made!

Yeah, gonna assume this is a fake movie.

Just know that it's a very subjective thing, and those who think it's crap are objectively wrong.

I used to try and be one of those cool people who would argue that Casino is better than Goodfellas , I was obviously wrong and didn't know what I was talking about.
I really like Casino , it's a hell of a movie for the most part and a great time spent with fun characters. Superb acting , especially by the three leads of the movie and tells an interesting story that I already knew quite a bit about. Again though it's just a little too long. I feel as if the same story could have been told and been tighter if they shaved some time off. It doesn't flow as well as other Scorsese movies (like Goodfellas) and to me that makes it less rewatchable. It's been a few years since I visited Casino so it only made like #6 on my list.
It's worth a watch to anyone who hasn't seen it though.

Casino was my #5 movie. It's definitely not better than Goodfellas but it's a damn fine movie in it's own right, definitely worth checking out. The violence is turned up even higher though, so that might be a turn off to some.

Me and LT are on the same wavelength, Casino was my number 5 as well. It's violence quotient even made the rounds at my high school, "you gotta see the head in the vice scene!" was a discussion topic at the time of it's release. I also love the scene in the desert, no scene shot in broad daylight should leave you that uneasy. I know it's based on another true story like Goodfellas but it feels like an odd kind of fan fic continuation. Pesci's character does get made without a hitch and gets Jimmy Conway to go in the casino business. It's a fun exercise to watch these two back to back.

So Shootist, I did watch them back to back. The mistake I made was watching Goodfellas first. Because Casino was in no way going to match that watching experience and it didn’t. However, it’s still a good movie. I still like it. But watching it back to back lessened it’s impact on me as a younger dude.

I don't like Casino as much as I used to when I was younger but I still think it's better than Goodfellas, which I find to be pretty hard overrated nowadays. It's good but not great. Awesome countdown I wish I would have caught this one in time. Hopefully A Bronx Tale gets some love it's one of my favorites.

Casino was my #2. Here's why.
To me, Casino is way more a Bobby D movie than Goodfellas. The whole movie revolves around him and he's the leading man for sure.
Goodfellas, in my opinion, is a better movie, but Bobby D is in a supporting role to Ray Liotta, and therefore loses points. Goodfellas is a Robert DeNiro movie as much as it is a Joe Pesci or Paul Sorvino movie. Lorraine Bracco has a bigger part than DeNiro does.
I still ranked Goodfellas pretty high, and put one movie ahead of it that DeNiro is a supporter in (should be obvious which movie because it's legendary), but I just wanted to throw that out there.
And let's be real: as much as there are better movies with Robert DeNiro in it, Casino is fucking awesome too. It's such an easy watch, has plenty of drama and action, and is just so great. Comparing it with his other big movies is like comparing apples to apples. They're all good, yo.

Neither did Sleepers, which was another difficult cut.

I could honestly go either way with this and Goodfellas at different times, but generally Ray Liotta does push Goodfellas over the top. That and it's easily the most iconic Pesci. Had I considered it, I'd probably have rated Casino higher for DeNiro specifically...but I rated on film, not role, which would have entirely changed the list.

I really thought Raging Bull would finish higher and possibly even in a dogfight for the #1 spot but apparently people think the same way I do because I also ranked it at #5. It's an exceptional movie and a great character piece - one of the best you're going to ever find IMO and totally engrossing. I honestly think everyone should at least watch it once - the problem lies and why it dropped with me is because it's a hard movie to ever convince yourself to go back and visit and that's almost more of a testament to the darkness and tone of the movie along with some incredibly uncomfortable scenes. Unlike other movies I don't consider rewatchable Raging Bull is more because of the realness and grittiness of it as opposed to the length and pacing - because the movie actually flows quite well.

I placed Raging Bull at #4 but I don't feel like an explanation for why it dropped is necessary. It is a solid justifiable #1 placing film, but it's just that De Niro is in three other masterpieces that I liked more.

This was my number 1 with a bullet, De Niro's best performance hands down. Plus the other factors of recreating some historically significant boxing matches and perhaps the GOAT editing make this one of my 10 favorite films.

Raging Bull was my #3 film. Objectively it probably should be #1, but there were 2 other films I liked better and were of similar quality.

Had mine at #4, just behind Casino...but really, the top 4, at least, could be relatively interchangeable depending on the mood. I even had it at 2 at one point, but moved it down. But much like Casino, had I been judging it just for DeNiro, I'd have put it at the top.
