Some pretty diabolical VAR this weekend unfortunately. We can get completely inconsequential 1mm offside decisions but the most blatant of fouls apparently can't be overturned. Martial, Kane, Silva and Azpilicueta all had stonewall penalties - not much point having replay if you're not actually going to fix any of the mistakes.
On a brighter note - some brilliant goals by young players this weekend. Harry Wilson's free kick, Harvey Barnes' half volley and I was pleased to see Tammy Abraham get a couple of goals after his difficult start to the season.
Week 3 Standings HR 62 Choke 61 Todd 52 Davey 51
It was Todd's turn to smash the predictions this week - a 14 and 7 pointer for him.

Some real coupon busters this weekend, I really thought that Burnley game was going to save my weekend predictions but alas!

Burnley are genuinely one of the worst footballing sides I've ever seen. Dyche needs to get down off his moral high horse about diving and gamesmanship, they were time wasting from minute one. Their style of play is effective, but not what I'd want to watch every week. Really was grim.
Random thoughts from the weekend - United showing they still have issues to solve, really poor performance from them on Saturday. For Arsenal, see United. Still issues there, David Luiz is no answer to their defensive problems. Spurs being Spursy, the norm. City and Liverpool will be 15 points plus clear of the rest again this season, they are both operating at a different level. Watford need some points soon or Grazia could be gone, their owners generally don't hang around when they want a change. Silva has spent so much money and Everton and they still look no better than when he took over.

I'd be interested to see what Todd thought of it but I actually saw the Liverpool game as a reasonable positive for Arsenal. Obviously David Luiz had a really bad 10 minutes, panicking and giving away the penalty, and then trying to make amends on the halfway line and getting skinned by Salah - but beside that I think there was a lot to like. I thought Emery's tactics were excellent - clogging the middle of the pitch and allowing Robertson and TAA space initally sounds counter-intuitive but when you consider that it means that you are effectively conceding a style of play that you are more equipped to defend it actually makes a lot of sense, and the fact that they were relatively resolute until Matip's goal (not from open play) compared to recent games against Liverpool backed that up. On another day Aubameyang, and especially Pepe, take their chances on the counter and the game could have been significantly different.

Agree that there were positives for Arsenal, but that defence is always going to hold them back when going for trophies. I like Maitland-Niles but don't see him as a full-back, he needs to be further up the pitch. Sokratis and Luiz is a disaster waiting to happen, and Monreal is getting on now. Going forward they look good, but not going to win things yet. Having said all that I do think they'll get 4th this season and back into Champions League.

On another day Aubameyang, and especially Pepe, take their chances on the counter and the game could have been significantly different. To be honest, I didn't like the diamond. I understood it but looking at where Liverpool were in terms of their first two games and their pre-season, I would have liked us to have matched them and trusted ourselves a little more. As it turned out, the diamond kind of worked. Defensively we largely handled the overlap and crossing from the full-backs, and the plan to counter-attack once the full-backs were up the pitch did materialise - we just weren't clinical. Lots of positives though. Even David Luiz, who we all know makes mistakes in crucial moments, dealt with a lot aerially and showed some promise that he will help this Arsenal team against lesser opposition. I can see it from both angles in terms of the diamond, but once we switched to the 4-3-3, I thought we looked a match for them. One note on Sean Dyche - what an utter toss-pot. He complained after the Arsenal game about diving when absolutely no fucker dived whatsoever. Always eager to moan about the tiniest injustice. Horrible for the game. Can see him turning into, as my favourite journalists down at football365 would call - a PFM. Proper Football Man. You know, that Peter Reid, Graeme Souness, Sam Allardyce-type cunt that will spend the entirety of the half-time analysis of Aston Villa v Southampton talking about Paul Pogba worrying more about his hair than his football. Saturday 31st August Southampton 1-2 Man Utd (Rashford) Chelsea 3-0 Sheff Utd (Abraham) Crystal Palace 1-2 Villa (McGinn) Leicester 2-1 Bournemouth (Vardy) Man City 4-0 Brighton (Sterling) - double Newcastle 2-1 Watford (Joelinton) West Ham 2-2 Norwich (Pukki) Burnley 0-2 Liverpool (Salah) Sunday 1st September Everton 1-1 Wolves (Sigurdsson) Arsenal 3-2 Spurs (Aubameyang)

That’s a bit harsh on Peter Reid, I know you shouldn’t mix football and politics but at least he’s on the opposite side of the fence than Brexit Sam.

After the first weekend I said (on Leicester v Wolves) - "Watched back the goal that was disallowed by VAR this morning, I'm fine with it being disallowed as long as the rule stays the same all season."
After the second weekend (City v Spurs) - "Good to see consistency with the decisions though, as I said further up the thread fine with ours being disallowed as long as it's the same for all. Seeing City have one disallowed for the same gets rid of those fears. It's a silly rule, but at least it's consistent"
Today - Newcastle score a goal that hits Joelinton on the arm and Hayden scores, goal stands. Was always a ridiculous rule, that now isn't being enforced every time. So Wolves and Man City now have legitimate complaints that this has cost them points, and not cost Newcastle. Why have VAR if they're only going to call these 'handball assists' some of the time?

Just got back from Goodison, we were terrible at the back. Truly dreadful. We need this international break to hopefully get some energy back into the players legs, we looked knackered.
Going to pop the Arsenal/Spurs game on in a second, sounds a great game

Gain 3 points on everyone by not doubling up on Norwich-City lol
Walked out of Molineux on Saturday cursing our shocking defensive display, honestly it's so weird to see your side ship 5 goals and think "Chelsea weren't even that good today" but my god did City and Arsenal try and out-do us on the shocking defending stakes. Suicidal stuff from both of them, Arsenal especially. They had that game won, it was done. Some of these Prem sides understand the new rule is you CAN play the ball to a defender inside the area on a goal kick, and not that you have to?

Random prediction: City score 8 in one game at some stage Cha-ching! Man United were an absolute shambles today, and are really getting exposed without Pogba around to paper over the cracks. The heat is starting to rise on Ole, and obviously so with the current relegation zone form since he was appointed permanently, but it's obvious that the club's issues run a lot deeper than just the manager. Week 6 ScoresHR - 108 Davey - 101 Choke - 98 Todd - 98
