He would have been mine as well. Fits all the criteria like a glove while still being absolutely awesome.

The fact that people forgot about Neidhart means he's even more the perfect #1 for this list!

How sad is it that Marty Jannetty himself is only the third best Marty Jannetty of all time? Poor guy.
In all seriousness Marty had some pretty great moments and matches after the infamous Rockers split , he was as hot as any babyface in the company when he returned to confront Shawn in that gif and the two went on to have to absolutely great matches - especially the RAW match , which if you haven't seen than you need to go check it out. The problem is that aside from anything to do with Shawn , whether it be friend or foe than the fans just didn't care and he floundered - granted his stop and start career because of drug issues probably had a big part in that as well. And then his return against Angle was also epic , I love that match.
It just so happens that he teamed with a guy who arguably went onto be the greatest in ring performer of all time , so no matter how good Marty actually was , wasn't going to matter. I remember there being a contingent on PW back in the day who actually tried to argue that Marty was the better wrestler between the two and if he'd gotten the push he would have been as huge as Shawn. Those people are fucking crazy but it's funny to think about. He was good , maybe even really good in the right circumstances but he was the ultimate second banana.

Honestly, Marty would've been my #1 Marty (obv) but I didn't include him because I wasn't sure if he qualified. It is funny to see him finish as 3.

I can't stop laughing at that gif.
The only thing better than Marty not topping the overall list would've been him not making it at all. Would've felt like an homage to his career and what could've/should've been.

I wouldn't have thought Marty was eligible. After all the list is named for him. Still hilarious that inspite of that he STILL didn't make #1.

I was starting to get worried as we got closer. It would be very fitting if he didn't as the Ultimate Jannetty. Kinda wish he made #2 now just so he can really bring it home. Love the gif too. If only he was wearing a fanny pack for complete 90's goodness.

Opinions are all fine and dandy. But sometimes opinions can be wrong. Facts are better. You can't argue with the truth. So what I intend to do here is smash bad opinions using facts. And not just any facts. But the most factual facts of all. Matt Facts. Better at what? Making people change the channel? Or being a cure for insomnia? Jeff is better than Matt at jumping from high places and spastic gyrations. Matt is better than Jeff at everything else. Except for making people give a shit No one gave two shits about Version 1. Mattitude is practiced in 100 countries. (10/24/02) Matt has over 46 million Mattitude Followers. (4/26/03) Mattitude is considered sacred in Japan. (7/24/03)
These FACTS prove that people did indeed care about Version 1. -------------------- Matt always got more candy than his brother. (10/31/02) Matt is his father's favorite child. (12/7/02) Matt always gets more valentines than his brother. (2/13/03) Matt is better than Jeff. (Evergreen Matt Fact)
Proof Matt is better than Jeff. His father knows it. His neighbors know it. Lovestruck fans know it. Deep down, you know it too. ------------------ Are we actually trying to compare Matt Hardys Cruiserweight V1 run and the fact he was only brought back to put Edge over to Jeffs first run where he took the IC title from HHH, had the hardcore feud that introduced RVD to the wwe or with his Ladder match with Taker (that run alone kills Matt) or how about when he returned took the IC title and feuded with Nitro and Umaga, ultimately going into winning the WWE title. And guess what when he lost the title he went into a momentum killing brother vs brother feud. But that’s ok because Matt slipped into obscurity where he belongs whilst Jeff went into feud with Punk in his farewell main event match. And when they came back, oh look after being years of irrelevant other than shouting delete at a fucking drone....there’s Matt hardy at his brothers side at Wrestlemania. And when the dust is settled after that, who’s having The Summerslam match with Nakamura, the Hell in a Cell with Orton? Jeff FUCKING HARDY. That’s who. lol @ little Jeffy Poo's little ladder match with Taker. Jeff fought him hard. He fought him well. Out in that ring he gave him hell. Then he lost. For the second straight week. You know who didn't lose to Taker two straight weeks? You know who actually beat Taker two straight weeks? That's right. Matt f'n Hardy. Matt has beaten Undertaker 2 straight times. (10/17/02)
Taker is a legend. Matt beat Taker two straight times. Therefore, Matt is the ultimate legend. As for the rest..... Matt Hardy's Cruiserweight Title run was WONDERFUL. Matt Hardy was forced to put over Edge because Vince MEEKMAHAN is jealous of Matt's genius. You know what a control freak MEEKMAHAN is. Jeff winning the IC Title from HHH was a fluke that most people forgot about within a month. Jeff's reign barely lasted longer than The Mountie's, who is also better than Jeff. lol as if RVD needed Jeff Hardy to become a star. 2001 RVD could have got over wrestling a broomstick. Unless you are saying Jeff Hardy makes an adequate broomstick. If that's the case then we are finally on the same page. I....guess Jeff feuded with Nitro & Umaga over the IC Title? I don't doubt you. But you cannot possibly expect me to remember 4/10 feuds from over a decade ago when you've got truly great secondary title feuds like Matt's WONDERFUL war with MVP over the US Title, or Matt's MAGNIFICENT melees with Rey Mysterio over the Cruiserweight Title right there. To compare the two is like comparing a filet mignon to Spam. Or comparing Matt to Jeff. lol Jeff faded away and was rendered obsolete way back when The Sensei of Mattitude was still gaining his 46 million DELIGHTFUL Mattitude Followers. I wasn't watching WWE when Jeff feuded with Punk. You know why? Because I was tired of MEEKMAHAN not appreciating the genius of Matt Hardy. Fast forward a bunch of years and it was Jeff once again riding Matt's EXQUISITE coattails all the way back to WWE. In closing, I leave you with another gem of genius from the only Hardy who matters..... Matt is appearing in his 4th Wrestlemania. (3/30/03) Matt often wonders how they did Wrestlemania without him. (3/30/03)You and me both, champ. You and me both.....

Matt Facts were the highlight of 2003 Smackdown. God I loved that run. This guy gets it. RT & 🤯 have also shown themselves to be gentlemen of EXTRAORDINARY taste in this thread. True MFers the lot of you. ---------------- Genuinely shocked Jannetty didn't run away with this. I expected this to be the biggest landslide yet. It's right there in the name! Although it does work on some level. Marty Jannetty not even being able to win his own countdown is the most Marty Jannetty thing ever. UT would Marty have won if everybody knew the rules? I'm guessing he would have. I was one of those Marty > Shawn people in 1996. In my case it was a 100% troll job to get under the skin of HBK fans. I'm guessing it's similar with most Marty > Shawn people. Either that or they just loathe Shawn so much that they refuse to give him any credit at all.

Like I said earlier I threw Jannetty in at #10 because I couldn’t think of anyone else. I didn’t want to vote for him because that would be cliche, even though the list is inspired by him.

Had to put Jannetty at the top of his own list. All these comments though saying he should have been left off or number 2 is an even more fantastic homage.

So going through my WCW run I am right now I found a new appreciation for Stevie Ray , I always assumed that he was downright terrible in the ring but truthfully as the power half of Harlem Heat he was pretty damn good and played his role right. I was even impressed with him in the four corners match at Spring Stampede in 97 and thought he held his own as a "singles" guy even though he really wasn't.
Haven't seen a ton of his later stuff after he broke off onto his own but I can imagine it must be pretty bad from what I've heard. I like Stevie Ray though , he's a qualified and good #2.

I had Stevie at 2, but was convinced he was going to win.

I think most of Stevie Ray's singles stuff was ok. He just needed a better finisher than the slap jack/pedigree. A simple power move like a spine buster would have been great.

Anvil is definitely #1.
I had Stevie Ray at #3. He checks all the Jannetty boxes. Booker T went on to become one of the most decorated collectors of gold in pro wrestling history. Stevie Ray....did not.

I think we know who number 1 is so:
1. Marty Jannetty 2. Jim Neidhart 3. Stevie Ray 4. Buddy Roberts 5. Samu 6. Bart Gunn 7. Dennis Condrey 8. John Kronus 9. Mustafa Saed 10. Robert Gibson Samu, Mustafa and Kronus I think are huge misses by the folks at PW,. Now these are Jannetty's.

MY LIST: 1- Rick Steiner 2- Stevie Ray 3- Matt Hardy 4- Christian 5- Johnny Mercury 6- Bart Gunn 7- D-Von 8- Big Cass 9- Eric Rowan 10- Charlie Haas
And I just sent in my top debuts list. I was really torn on my top 3, but I just went for it.
Also; as you see; I wrote Johnny Mercury because that's how irrelevant he was.

The Anvil is awesome and a deserving #1 as he is the ultimate Jannetty and really only ever really flourished in a tag team. I used to never think much of him aside from he was the partner of my favorite wrestler Bret Hart but when you go back and watch that era and with the Anvil you really get to appreciate how fucking awesome he was as the bull of that team and how much he really added too and made The Hart Foundation one of the greatest teams of all time. He was crazy , he was a rhino and he was vital to Bret Hart's early career.
Also I think he could have been fine as a singles guy , at least in the midcard. I watched a match between he and Savage when doing Hogan research awhile back on SNME and the match was really fucking solid and Anvil was good in it. I'm curious as to what could have been had he at least been given a push in the midcard. Certainly wouldn't be worse than half the guys there were featuring around that time.

I don't think any of us are beating Shootist 's list. His Jannettys were such Jannettys that the rest of us forgot all about them. Truly the cream of the crap when it comes to Jannettys. I had Anvil at #2 but after thinking about it a little more I'm ok with him winning the countdown. The Hart Foundation broke up 9 months before The Rockers. Bret won the WWF Championship 3 and a half years before Michaels. Anvil had already been gone from WWF for 8 months when Bret won his first WWF Championship. Marty at least had a cup of coffee IC Title run. Anvil won no titles post-Hart Foundation. Really makes you wonder why it's called The Jannetty and not The Neidhart. You guys won me over to your way of thinking. Anvil is actually a bigger Jannetty than Jannetty. He was good/great in the Hart Foundation but I always found singles Anvil to be a bore. He's a tag wrestler all the way. ---------------------- 1. Marty Jannetty (#3) 2. Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart (#1) 3. Stevie Ray (#2) 4. Bart Gunn (#6) 5. Ray Rougeau 6. Charlie Haas (#7) 7. Chavo Guerrero 8. Joey Mercury (#9) 9. D-Von Dudley (#10) 10. Rick Steiner (#4) Ray Rougeau got snubbed. Jacques had good post-Rougeau Brothers runs as a Mountie and a Quebecer. He won the IC and multiple Tag Titles. Ray....did French language commentary and conducted interviews when Mean Gene wasn't around. Chavo is an all time level Jannetty and honestly probably should have been even higher than #7 on my own list.
