So much of covid feels like such a mental chess game with poorly written and ever-changing rules.

Children's mental health hospitalization up 38% in the US since we forced the kids to go back to in person classes. Suicide and self-harm admissions up 50% Hospitals are out of beds so most kids get turned back home and have to find outpatient help.

So glad to see that sending them back to school for their mental health worked out so well. The goal was to kill off the zoomers right?

US cannot do any form of contact tracing because of freedom so this would not be a real problem here.  We do not control the spread at all anymore.

Health experts here want to stop using case numbers as a metric anyway.  They want hospitalizations and death rates now to all the talk since it is clear that we will not do shit to control cases.

Israel testing a new model of vaccination. They will be looking at boosters every 4 months. Which is likely the future. Constant boosters.

NYC children's hospitals are filling rapidly with COVID cases. Half are in children under 5 who cannot be vaccinated. Fourfold increase in the last 3 weeks of children's COVID cases. Will likely be the trend nationally as Omicron spreads.

School closure talks are restarting as children as child infections soar as well. Liberal states likely will start to move back to remote learning. GOP states will continue to claim COVID does not effect children and return with maskless classes.

Estimated 10 percent of infected children have developed long COVID.

Wife's mom just called to inform us Wife's sister started having symptoms and popped hot. Then her husband popped hot despite still being asymptomatic. Guess we got got. Hoping son isn't fucked too bad. Will wait for symptoms and get a real test 5-7 days out from last known exposure. At home rapid tests clearly seem to be bullshit at worst or used improperly at best.

Having had pneumonia a few times, if your lungs were messed up, that first drag would have damn near killed you.

This is Wife's side of the family's fault, which will just create even more drama with my side of the family.

US is starting to cave on all restrictions. Since we cannot control COVID anymore, CDC is slowly rolling back rules for staying home after exposure. Now at 5 days if not symptomatic. And it is not expected to be followed as if we kept people home for COVID in this current wave too many places will have to shut down, so working with COVID will be expected in a lot of places.

COVID slowly taking Australia as well finally.  Got a trickle of deaths so far, but with 10k new cases a day and a fast doubling rate should go higher as the weeks pass by.

Also scientists are finally figuring out long COVID.  Major breakthrough found the virus survives in organ systems long after the main infection ends.  Very likely this can also happen asymptomatically.  Autopsy results showed it lasting at least 230 days after primary infection in secondary organs.  They also have confirmed long COVID does occur in asymptomatic cases through this secondary infection.

Of course virus skeptics say this is impossible and it only infects the lungs, and since it was an NiH paper it should just be ignored until scientists get the rights to cut into the dead and replicate.  And they say that the dead must differ greatly from the people who did not die.  

The study is going to Nature though where it will likely pass peer review as COVID skeptics are the minority of biologists.  It confirms what scientists already believed in that COVID hits the blood from the lungs, which then explains the heart and brain issues people have, as well as, the kidney issues.  

The brain fog and fatigue is speculated to be the virus lingering in the brain.

Once all of this is verified, it means acute COVID is not the real problem, but long COVID is as the damage it does will likely go undetected in hundreds of million of people until it triggers something severe like a heart attack, kidney failure or early onset dementia, three outcomes we currently see from long COVID.

Got a message today from the state government that I was a potential close contact of a case that has tested positive from my flight home...

As a result I had to leave my family on holidays down the coast and drive home to isolate until I get my negative result back.

I got double vaxxed and have no symptoms, yet the lunatic ride continues.

I flew home business class because I could, the kid next to me was barking like a dog, there would be some irony in coming back positive... Though my RAT was negative.
Seems poetic as PWs first covid case I could be it's first reinfection.

Speaking of sequels, I just watched Matrix resurrections and it made me mad... Too woke for my tastes, especially following the debacle of the star wars sequels.
