CDC likely to roll back the only 5 day quarantine since cases spiked since they announced the change and were called out for prioritizing productivity at the expensive of public health.

No, my lovely COVID. Pretty sure I will have to go to the pulmonologist tomorrow while being symptomic because they have a no cancelation policy with a 250 dollar charge. I may get my chance to finally kill some boomers!!!

In more special Australian insanity... After dropping the requirements of PCR tests, Australians are running out to purchase RAT's except nobody has them so we have symptomatic boomers on an endless track through shopping malls.
Why get tested? If you're sick... Stay home! We don't need a positive flu diagnosis to know we should stay home. World has gone mad... But everyone needs that RAT so they can post a picture of it online and say "How could this happen to me?" as if contracting covid is some sort of moral failing.

In positive news we have with Omicron a definite decoupling of cases and ICU admissions, for the reasons posted a couple of pages aho Omicron isn't as successful at getting to a person's lungs.
Also looks like the natural immunity of Omicron is a good barrier to infection from Delta, as least for a short time.

But everyone needs that RAT so they can post a picture of it online and say "How could this happen to me?" as if contracting covid is some sort of moral failing. Generally people get tested because so many people demand proof that you are sick. Like tomorrow it is likely I will have to go out to a pulmonologist to avoid a massive cancelation fee despite having every symptom of COVID because I have no at home test and cannot confirm I am sick. Schools, jobs, ect all want proof of sickness and will accept that taking a test at home is good enough but not take you at your word, unless you also lie about taking the test. Like this whole pandemic would be a shit load easier if people were ok with sickness being a reason to stay home, but instead we get this shit. Also find it weird that people want to get tested all the time, when if you are not positive before you get tested, this seems like the most high risk thing you do since that is the one place you can be sure to find infected people.

Go out, buy a test and take it regardless of symptoms or lack there of. It's a great way to score some time off work.

Yeah, tons of people are over testing here too. Or stocking up on tests for some insane reason. US cannot find them in stock and lines for the limited free tests are hours long. Lab tests can be done but you have to get appointments usually and go in person.
Driving me nuts as I know several appointments I will have to keep unless I go to a lab and get a confirmation that this illness that both me and my mom have is COVID rather than have people accept my word I am sick and let me just lay here for two weeks until it is out of my system. Like I am trying to quarantine as per CDC directions but my medical providers are like screw that shit and advise against it.
Also weird now me and mom got sick twice with COVID and my anti-vax brother who lives with us has not.

Man, need to get a COVID test to confirm if I have COVID or not for appointments, and testing places are booked solid for the next two weeks and free test places people line up for hours in advance to get tested.
Absolute disaster here.
Hoping the fever I have today burns it out fast. I mean got it right after a booster, not like it will do much more than annoy me.

Had our morning meeting today only to find out 3 out of 6 of my team are COVID positive. All are double vaccinated, so luckily it's just presenting as a cold. Also, 3 out of 10 of my main friends group are all positive as well. Again all double vaccinated, presenting as a cold.
An acquaintance of mine in the US lost her husband this weekend from COVID. 45 years old. Not vaccinated.
83% of our positive tests are double vaccinated individuals.

I’m on a stupid testing quarantine now. I’ve had a monster cough for a week now, taken two rapids test over four days and passed both. It doesn’t feel like Covid, it felt like a ton of mucus that has to come up. I’ve had no excessive fatigue, headache, loss of breath, taste or smell but they tested me anyway and told me to stay home for two-three days until they have a result. But I did get a positive strep result so at least it’s not nothing.

New COVID is much different than past COVID. Wicked sore throat, headache, muscle weakness, fatigue, the shits and a fever are my symptoms. So flu with a sore throat now. Thankfully the lung binding is low, and it seems the lungs were the pathway to the brain, heart and kidneys. Still not sure what the long term effects may be, or the rare manifestations since the bindings in the body changed, but seems fairly minor this wave. Not seeing many getting COVID pneumonia from it.

Kelly Ernby, who spoke out against the COVID vaccine and mandates at the Turning Point GOP conference, got COVID from the conference and died at 46. She was a rising star in the GOP.

I’m going to scream.
BC government called an early press conference today which usually means changes are coming and/or bad news. So I tuned in.
Literally nothing changed. And they have the balls to tell us to stop gathering in groups while they refuse to delay school starting, keep restaurants open, and continue on with sports.

There really will be no stopping this, will there? If 4-5 billion people died, Mother Nature would stop trying to actively kill us off trying to achieve homeostasis. Probably slow down the effects of global warming, etc. #Thanoswasright

I loved how for decades we were told that overpopulation will destroy the Earth and now that it is slowly to halt people are screaming that kids need to fuck or there will not be enough of a population to take care of us when we get older.
The solution many have is that women should not work anymore, so they can return to being baby making factories.

I love the US COVID strategy has basically moved to just COVID, nothing bad ever happens to people who get it. We rebranded die for oil to die to make profit line go up.

The solution many have is that women should not work anymore, so they can return to being baby making factories. The overpopulation panic has rarely if ever been led by people that think there are too many Europeans or Americans, instead it’s typically been an anti-Asia, anti-African stance, despite how many of them could live in the standard American carbon footprint.

Yup, I remember all of the talk of the Indian population boom in the 80's, then the Chinese population boom. I just find it ironic that after decades of this whole overpopulation stuff now that boomers realize that social security solvency depends on birthrates that people are freaking out in the US about population growth stalling.

Feels like after a two day hard burn the COVID is finally easing for me. Just weakness and headache today. Fever feels gone. Basically felt like a bad flu.

Omicron is ripping through my church community. Probably could name 20+ people who have contracted it in the past week. Doesn't seem that mild, the good news is there is no sign of lung issues like pneumonia in any of them, but most of them are laid out for 3-5 days with what would be classed as a nasty flu.
My Dad tested positive to Omicron yesterday which I'm not stoked about, he is double vaxxed and not due for his booster. He also had Alpha in early 2020 but still caught this. He has some serious underlying health issues and diminished lung capacity due to his last near terminal bout with Alpha. I'm sure he will be okay, I just expected him to have more immunity than he did.
I'm also going to tell you something I believe anecdotally that has no scientific backing... I believe the vaccine offers ZERO percentage protection of contracting Omicron or passing it, but may reduce the severity of illness. I know that's anti science at the moment, but from what I am seeing in household transmission, I believe it to be the case. This whole "Pandemic of the unvaccinated" narrative is falling apart. I'm not saying there's anything we can do about it, but it is what it is.

I’ve read that the vaccine isn’t nearly as effective either at prevention but more so in now badly you fall ill. Dude compares it to a castle defense system which was quite the brilliant metaphor for how it seems to be working.
Also read there is early hope that Omicron , unlike Delta may actually help your body fight other strains in the future. Possibly.
It’s crazy how this virus in general works and that messes with the science. It’s like a toddler with ADHD.

We've been told here it's not a case of IF you'll get Omicron, but rather WHEN. We really have very little in terms of restrictions in place and it is cold and flu season. I don't believe the vaccine or booster protects against getting it, but I do believe it certainly helps in not overloading the already overloaded health care system when most people are not getting AS sick and can recover at home. I've had some cold and flus that have knocked me down and out for a week or more, this sounds like it could be much the same. I believe it was Todd who said data was showing it to be highly transmissible, but not as virulent, therefore showing the virus itself weakening which in turn should lead to eventual herd immunity.

Not sure the source from this outside The Daily podcast, but they were saying the other day that omicron is better at getting into and sticking/multiplying in the nose, but not nearly as good at traveling to or multiplying in the lungs as other variants.
Also due to the sheer number of tests that my local clinic is running test results are slowed beyond the typical 48-72 hour window. At this point I’ll be cleared to leave quarantine from symptoms lessening before I’ll get results.

Also due to the sheer number of tests that my local clinic is running test results are slowed beyond the typical 48-72 hour window. At this point I’ll be cleared to leave quarantine from symptoms lessening before I’ll get results. The same thing is happening here which is causing real havoc. I found it quite interesting that the reason behind the slowdown is that originally they would analyse the samples in groups of four and then only test them individually if the group analysis came back positive. Now that the positive rate has skyrocketed that efficiency is lost. Given the situation now it would make sense for people who think they have it just stay home, but unfortunately people need to produce evidence of a positive PCR test in order to qualify for government assistance. As a result we're in a fairly absurd situation where sick people are queuing up outside testing facilities in the small hours of the morning so they can get tested before they close because of overcapacity.
