Baker -man, hopefully youth being on your side helps. My dad thought no biggie 24-36 hours after his second dose. It wasn't until 48-72 hour period where he got wrecked by the fatigue and fever side effects. So brace yourself and standby, I suppose? 🤯 earning those brownie points by claiming I have youth on my side. If only! I've had old man aches and pains since like 2011! Second shot is already more intense than the first. I have arm pain and woke up over an hour later than usual. Now that doesn't seem like much unless you know how OCD I am. For I do love my patterns. No weird dreams to report. Sad. Comparatively speaking! I'm just assuming you're more youthful than an almost 76 year old Vietnam vet. Basing this assumption entirely around the fact that I presume you know how to post on PW from your phone if you had to in a pinch. I want no part of those brownies unless they're edible. Weed or not, I've legit been craving brownies for a week.

Second dose... IN MY VEINS!!!
This one burned going in. I'm hoping just because the nurse or whoever is administering shots got distracted by her girlfriend.

You guys are so far ahead of us in terms of vacccinations it's crazy. No wonder our numbers are soaring again.
My mom is 67 and her age group just got approved for their 1st dose. I have likely another month before I can get mine.

Had my second vaccine dose yesterday. I’ve slept about fifteen hours since, but otherwise no major symptoms. I’m tired, I’m a little achy, a little bit chilled, but I could do something if I really needed to. Fortunately I don’t so I’m just laying in bed waiting for third nap.

Very sad to hear what is happening in India at the moment with them dwarfing some of the numbers that even the US had at their peak - over 300k new infections and two thousand deaths recorded each of the last six days. Apparently someone is dying in Delhi every four minutes, just terrible.

Something like a record 350,000 infections now in one day and it's apparently killing 1 person every 4 minutes in Delhi.
A concern I had was a country like India falling like it has and without proper care and support or any real means to deal with it, continues to fall into a state of chaos. Worse though, they're happy to travel apparently, as in last week when a returned traveller from India tested positive in Western Australia and sent the entire western side of the country into lockdown.

Meanwhile in CT, we got measles in my area and lawsuits and laws being proposed in most states to stop ALL vaccine mandates, and a Supreme Court that may rule that mass vaccination is unconstitutional.

The one bloody weekend I leave my house and see people...
I've been waiting for my new desk to come in. Finally it did, so I asked my brother to do the pilgrimage to IKEA to help me pick it up as he has a truck and I do not. All good except my brother called me last night and told me he wasn't feeling well so he was getting tested and this morning found out he tested Positive. So off mom and I go to get tested. Mom got her shot already, but I haven't. I'm booked for next week.
To make matters worse, I'd drop birthday gifts off to one of my good friends and her son afterwards and they asked me to come in to have cake (I shouldn't have) and another friend-who has been in our bubble-came over Saturday to help me build the desk.
Gah!

Yikes, bad luck. Hope y'all turn out negative.
My job announced May 24 is when we have to go back to the office permanently. Not looking forward to the commute. Hopefully we can convince management to allow at least one work from home per day, especially since we did so well 100% remote.

I have one member of my team that’s teleworking and she has to come back in June and I’m anticipating it to not be great between her and the ones that have been in office the whole time. But we didn’t all get the option to stay home so there’s some resentment of the “home dwellers”.

I'm very envious of those that got to work remotely. Been business as usual for me since the get go and it always rubbed me the wrong way whenever people on the radio talked about it as if it was the majority. Then again maybe cushy office jobs are the majority for all I know. That said if they did have us work remote it would make me very nervous since corporate always wants to eliminate jobs and positions and seeing how things have run the last year without those in office (if they can) just gets those wheels turning like with Best Buy.
Blah blah happy to be employed and all that.

But we didn’t all get the option to stay home so there’s some resentment of the “home dwellers”. The whole office was 100% remote with the rare exception of needing to meet with tech support. I've only been in the office once in the past year-plus to swap a laptop.
My company is global and the status of offices opening is all over the place. The Florida office has been open and mandatory for at least a couple months now. One person there died from COVID but I don't know if that closed the office.
The execs at my company were generally anti-remote work before COVID and it doesn't seem like the past year has changed their minds. At the beginning of COVID they only had 200 licenses for VPN connectivity and had to rush to add infrastructure to support 2000 users. There are certain things that are better in-person, like training new employees, but I don't think that means we should abandon all remote work. If we can't come to some agreement with local management to allow partial remote work I may find a new job that allows it or at least has a much shorter commute. One hour one-way is too much.

I wonder if the answer to companies mandating returns to the office is to say fuck it to their safety precautions (not wear a mask, don't socially distance, etc.) and see how they react?
I'm ready to join the revolution as soon as someone tell me I'm *REQUIRED* to go back in. Like, make the business case. Show me the proof I'm more productive/efficient in the office. And even then whatever you show me, I guarantee the bitter resentment about being back in the office will ensure I slack off extra.
I really need to get a custodian gig at a post office. @ness, help a brother out?

I think the argument can be made that being alone at home with little social interaction isn't necessarily a good thing. I know it's cool and hip these days to call yourself an introvert and then there's all the old bastards full of piss and vinegar that enjoy the idea of being alone, but for the majority, it isn't necessarily a good thing. It was noted, the pandemic and working from home greatly exacerbate people's feelings of loneliness and for lack of a better word, isolation. And it's been argued on here, about the mental health crisis driven by the lockdowns.

I'm as introverted as they come and I have been feeling the effects of isolation even though I live with family (and we all get alone). Introverted doesn't mean you avoid all social interaction with a smile on your face, it's just that you prefer to spend less time with people compared to extraverts. Less time, not no time.
We are social creatures after all, and being deprived of face-to-face interaction is somewhat harmful to mental health. Thankfully for the internet anyone can have video calls, and while it is something, it isn't a complete substitute for being physically close to someone.

And it's been argued on here, about the mental health crisis driven by the lockdowns. A little hyperbolic of me to phrase it this way, but... 100% guarantee corporations do not care about employee mental health. Except maybe in so far as it might negatively impact the bottom line. Also, to clarify my stance, I'm OK with companies reopening their offices to allow people to return if they so desire. However, I think it should be an option or need-based. The past year plus has been a forced business case showing who can and can't be just as effective in their roles remote. So unless there is a business need or unless employees want some in-person social stimulation, coming into the office should be at the discretion of the employee (assuming continued acceptable performance). A recent thought I'm having a hard time shaking though is that whether through vaccines or boredom the globe is "over" corona and lets its guard down. I don't think an event like corona or the Spanish Flu are once a century occurrences anymore. With how globalized and populated the world is, I think these things are going to start to become more of an exponential trend. So even if we are "over" corona, I don't particularly want to be the sucker caught out in the open when the next thing breaks big. Especially considering all the stupid in the world. Or at least America. Or at least Trump country.

For all the hoo-haa about India, The United States has had nearly double the cases and nearly 3x the death toll. You'd be a fool to trust those Indian numbers. The only statistic useful for determining death toll is excess deaths per capita, and there is no information available for India. The US is outside the top 20 in this metric, although they are still quite high relative to most other countries. Britain and America have had a lot of criticism for disastrous death tolls, but neither are close to the worst deaths per capita. There is so much variance in how countries report data. And it isn't necessarily the countries lying (well, Russia are lying but they lie about everything), some of these countries do not have the health system to even track Covid deaths let alone manage them. India is one such example. They cannot cope with this. I'm very fearful that the Indian snowball isn't close to stopping rolling yet. It's horrendous.

India is bad. The number are GROSSLY underreported as they have not yet started to recover the bodies from houses or really a centralized reporting system. And it just started in India, until it saturates the major cities it will not die down.
I get my first set of trackers in a few hours. If I cannot bluetooth connect to my phone I will be disappointed.
