WHO suggested mask and social distancing even if vaccinated to deal with the Delta variant. It is bypassing vaccines it appears with half the Israeli cases having been vaccinated.
CDC also found about 4000 breakout infections as well, and believe it is an extreme undercount.

This is such nonsense The death rates and hospitalisation rates have cratered in high vaccination countries. This seems to be public servants desperately wanting to maintain their importance and influence.

In all seriousness, I would love to see a proper economist analysis of Covid policy and the results. I'm not talking financially, I want an economist to examine the human and social costs of lock downs versus the actual health outcomes. I fear that we have set a weird precedent of what is important and the costs I believe are far higher than anyone expects.

In a formal program evaluation you will use years lost to COVID verse years lost to lockdown related conditions. There is no way conditions caused by the lockdown will outweigh the deaths in most places. Also most places lifted lockdowns a year ago. Hell India already opened up despite just weeks ago hundreds of thousands getting infected daily.
Given COVID is causing long term damage in millions of people, the true years lost will not be known for sometime. The main issue lockdowns cause is a lowering of perceived quality of life, but you cannot compare that directly to actual medical problems.
COVID delta is a serious concern since 5 seconds of contact is all it needs to transmit, so just walking by someone in a store is enough. It causes worse medical outcomes as well, and has some documented vaccine bypassing properties that are increased in the Delta sub variant that is emerging in India. Delta plus is the fittest version of the virus. The two delta variants are presumed to be behind India's rapid decimation. Estimated over a million dead there in the past two months.
Delta is seeing a doubling curve in documented infections every two weeks, which this late in the pandemic is very concerning.
But I welcome Delta Plus and hope it helps Make America Great Again as the US South celebrates it coming with rallies and other events!!!

This is why I'm saying we need proper data and not public servants covering their backsides. Historically, the more transmissible a disease, the less lethal it becomes, from what I understand this is an evolutionary driver that stems from the virus not wanting to kill hosts as it affects its chances of survival. I have seen anecdotal reports that the Delta strain is far less likely to cause serious illness than the original alpha strain. If this is the case we could have governments instigating Lockdowns for a virus less damaging than a mild case of the flu.

Viruses are not selfish, and rna viruses like COVID are noted for genetic recombination so they do not have to pick lethality or transmissible. Sure in purely math models a virus that kills quickly enough will run out of hosts, but we know that COVID is nowhere near as swift a killer for that to be a real issue yet.
We are at the point where it is estimated COVID killed 1 out of every 1000 people alive two years ago and is somewhere between the 6th and 9th worst epidemic in human history. If anything we are not taking it seriously enough as the linear trend has no slowed at all since the pandemic started.

Masks have become mandatory indoors in my state atm, so now get to deal with the anti-maskers that people have had to deal with elsewhere.
People complaining about having to wear a mask inside a club that they are at for leisure reasons is hilarious. You aren’t obligated to be there, you can miss one raffle or have a day off the pokies without issue.

Arkansas seems to be ground zero for a mass delta outbreak in the US. COVID gonna have a resurgence in the South. I just turned down a job offer involving relocating to Greenville, South Carolina. I figure even better job opportunities await in that area once the body count is finalized and all vacancies are clear. Then I bet I could name my price to head South!

As of yesterday Alberta reopened for the most part. Social distancing still in place...sort of. Masks are now by choice. Went to the movies last night it was about 50/50. The workers have to wear them but the patrons are by choice.
I'm happy to see people again and do things, BUT the homebody/introvert in me misses having COVID as an excuse to bow out graciously. I now have every weekend booked from now until Sept.

So Aussieland not doing well with Delta huh? Sounds like containment is starting to crack. We are actually fine, we are just hysterical as anything. We willock down a city over 5 cases of Covid. When the Australian media says we are doi g poorly, it means we have more than zero cases on the community.

277 cases in NSW but today was the lowest recorded number since the Bondi out-break.
It's obviously had an impact but so far Australia have been very fortunate with COVID. You would hardly know about it here in Queensland, we even had to vote for a council election at the height of it back in March 2020.

Sounds like New South Wales is having issues, as they recorded the single highest day for cases in 2021 today. The original cases they had, hit others and sounds like they have no idea how far the spread was. They are not in lockdown yet as they are waiting for 50 I believe it was reported. I do not live there though so am not sure, nor sure why they are not locked down when it seems much smaller outbreaks locked areas down for months.
Wastewater analysis is seeing more cases not accounted for.

They have been locked down for a week and the numbers were bouncing between 20 something and 30 something cases today, but today they had 16 cases. They will get through it.

One of the more interesting points made recently came from Cory Bernardi. I don't usually subscribe to anything he says, but this was note worthy.
He suggested, the idea of talkers vs doers. Now, your talkers are your professional professionals. The HR types, the accountants, union types, "managers"... the sort of people who think working from home is a great idea - because they can do it. Professional talkers.
They however don't build anything.. they don't create, transport, serve, greet, fix, repair, drive, do anything. They do however, offer solutions like "working from home" because it works for them. They are out of touch with blue-collar, middle Australia.
What we're doing is listening to talkers, and not doers, the likes of which can't work from home, ie: a builder can't build a home from.. ugh, home. A mechanic can't service someone's car from his bedroom, etc.
And sadly the best professional talkers, the politicians will only ever speak with other professional talkers. Thus never understanding the lower/middle-class, the doers. Case in point, any time a politician visits a building site or factory, it's like they're visiting a third world country, note the lack of sincerity and the dumbed down language.
Further case in point, the treatment of small and independent business owners throughout this entire pandemic.

COVID in the US pretty much now killing just the unvaccinated. Aside from my concerns about our boy @ness, how's this work with kids and babies too young to be vaccinated yet? Thought I just recently read somewhere that the vaccinated can still act as carriers, passing covid to the unvaccinated even if never suffering any symptoms themselves. I'm OK being a walking bioweapon to wipe out hard-Rs, but I don't want to do it at the expense of son.

Further case in point, the treatment of small and independent business owners throughout this entire pandemic. Seems to the main reason most Covid deniers I know have work that relies heavily on attendance from the public. There's definitely a correlation between the two. I think it's more so to the point politicians are listening to the 'talking class' who can work from home as opposed to the 'doers' needing to be in a store front or building to work. The treatment of small and locally owned businesses has been almost neglectful in Victoria. Politicians can 'work from home, local councillors can 'work' from home, they interact with people that can also work from home, thus their experience throughout covid is a lot different to those needing to work with customers or owning a small business and potentially lack the full understanding of how painful this last 18 months has been the working class. Remember Politicians in this country are of a particularly tone-deaf variety.

Children have a 1 in a 1000 chance of dying and are 15% of all COVID cases. Letting 1 in 1000 kids die is a sacrifice people are willing to make to pretend things are normal.
