Border deal from the Senate revealed. Would lock the border if there are more than 5000 people seeking asylum daily until all pending claims are cleared. Also seeks to increase the criteria for asylum and deport instantly if they do not meet the claim. Also plans to change the time to evaluate a claim from 10 years to 6 months by hiring more workers. House considers it dead on arrival as Trump wants the borders open to complain about them being open. They know without the economy to run on all they have left is the border, and a closed border gives them nothing to bitch about.
GOP is trying to claim that this would give people blanket permission to enter the US, except that is what asylum is and has been legal in the US for pretty much our entire history. If anything it does the opposite as closed borders will mean if you enter you will be rapidly deported. The people coming out said they spoke with President Trump and he said it is a bad deal.

Trump is saying he plans to implement a 60% import tax on chinese goods and a general 10% import tax on all goods. Should it happen expected the market will take a steep downfall.

Mayorkas impeachment vote failed.
Also appeals court finally ruled that Trump is not immune from the Jan 6th trial. Moving to the Supreme Court now to decide if presidents have total immunity or not, a theory they already shut down once for Trump in NY.
Trump now has two cases before the Supreme Court one arguing that he should have total immunity as he was acting as an officer of the US, and another claiming he cannot be removed from the ballot because the president is not an officer of the US.

Very interesting note dropped in the Supreme Court oral hearings today. Trump's legal team plans to argue his actions were not an insurrection because they were disordered, and should instead be seen as a riot. By their logic, a insurrection can only occur through organized action. Smith will present to the courts though that the Jan 6th riot was indeed planned, initiated and then monitored via ordered action.
The conservatives justices will rule most likely Trump can remain on the ballots claiming states lack the right to make federal actions, like prohibiting abortion, and lack the right to run their own elections and determine their own electors. Thomas heard arguments and will be part of the decision, which will start a push again for external ethics.
///
Judge Aileen Cannon ruled that Smith must hand over all discovery evidence the US has for Trump unredacted, including personal names of all witnesses and details of all conversations had with said witnesses so she can personally review the evidence to determine if the state is allowed to present it. Smith will appeal, as this is very abnormal behavior, and should Cannon not be removed from the case by the appeals court, will likely post ruling ask for her recusal, and should she refuse, petition the appeal circuit for it do to a pattern of questionable rulings outside of the regular course of law favorable to one party.

Biden document probe as ended with no charges suggested. Spec Counsel on the case was a Trump hire. Almost as if the crime is not having the documents but hiding and lying about them.

Did anybody ever actually think the Supreme Court would hold Trump accountable? Was pretty clear they don’t care about the country or constitution, just republican self interests.

I don’t even feel like the conservative justices were the only one with a problem. All the observers I read yesterday said that the keep him off the ballot side was terrible.
I don’t think they’re wrong, because I don’t think any one state should be making these kind of decisions that effect a federal election. The red states could bind together, take Biden off the ballot altogether, and try to make it impossible for a nominee to win.
But I think the larger point is that states also shouldn’t be allowed to independently make choices on voter id’s, absentee voting, voting times, etc. If Colorado can’t make a Constitutional argument that Trump isn’t allowed to be the President, then the Carolinas shouldn’t be allowed to pass laws that are specifically designed to reduce the number of black people voting. But this Supreme Court is going to say “states can’t impact a federal election, unless it’s in a way we prefer”

Not that one side is better or worse than the other, but that the behaviour escalates in each iteration. To me, it seems that the idea that "Trump is literally Hitler" seems to make people think that anything is justified to stop him. He is a toxic narcissist but if you destroy your democracy to stop one man, then you end up victorious in a pile of ash.

Trump participated in a movement to stop the Democratic process by force and Colorado determined that meant, due to the Constitution, that he was not allowed to be president. It’s a reasoned argument. It has nothing to do with destroying democracy, it’s a reasoned argument. Republicans in some southern states have enacted a number of voting laws to make voting more difficult for the people that vote against them, specifically black people, and have been caught saying as such on recordings. Thats definitively worse.

Not sure why this is even being presented as a both sides issue. Republicans sued to remove Trump from the ballot in most states. These are Haley republicans, that were Never Trumpers prior.
Democrats mostly went hands off with this as they want Trump as the GOP candidate as Biden should be able to beat him again. Haley there would be a lot more risk, and should she have won the primary and moved to the center, likely would win the election. I don't really like her positions, but Haley is easy to like because she is passionate, forceful, gets people excited and just has some natural charisma, something Biden, Trump and Desantis all lacked. Can't speak for everyone, but as someone who wants Biden re-elected, I want Trump on the polls, and to win the primary simply because Haley I think would whoop our asses in the swing states. Def do not think we could carry Georgia if she ran. Think she could also take Penn. She would really just have to change her hard right abortion views to be a viable national candidate. And I would not be shocked if she runs again in 2028 as she is not doing that bad against Trump who normally crushes his opponent's outright in the GOP.

Looking like Cruz may be in trouble in Texas. Colin Allred is outraising him and really gaining momentum in Texas. While not a friendly state to Dems, his football background for the Tenn Titans helping him get support from the GOP from perhaps the most football crazy state.
Very little money from national GOP groups this election as Trump exhausted many donors and groups, so money will really matter now. With the feud with Mitch, not likely to see any of that money coming his way anyway. Allred though will be getting big money from Senate Democrats and other groups as peeling away a senate vote is huge for them.
Ted did not win by big margins in 2018, and has to align with Trump's views now, so I think an upset here is very, very possible. And Dems need it since they are certainly losing Manchin's seat in West Virginia.
Speaking of former democrats, Sinema still not announced if she will seek reelection as an independent, but is getting killed in the polls by Gallego, who also is polling far higher than Lake. So may get a democrat into that seat again. Likely Sinema exits politics, as her push into kingmaker in 2020 ruined her support from dems, and the GOP want nothing to do with her.

Looking like the head of the RNC will be Michael Whatley, Trump's pick. Should he be hired on the Trump endorsement, Trump expected Lara Trump to be hired as co-chair, and his top aide to moved into the organization as well.
Votes will be done soon.

Alejandro Mayorkas impeached for allowing an invasion on US soil because he ended COVID protocols at the border that Trump enacted.
I doubt the Senate gives them even a full day to present a case. This is not likely to even a third of Senate to support it. This is not what the founders meant by high crimes and misdemeanors at all.
GOP did this today as if they lose the special election for Santos's seat they would not have the majority to impeach later. Vote was 214 to 213.
///
Reading Dems will send this to a committee to review and decide how to best proceed with the result expected in Dec. Not sure this is the best plan and they should know it. Personally believe they will do something akin to the second Trump impeachment and just do a fast trial and let the Senate vote it down.

Democrats took back the House seat held by Santos with about 54% of the vote during a nasty snowstorm.
GOP majority is now three in the House.

Trump really is the GOP isn't he? Heard an ad all week about some guy running who is the only TRUE TRUMP SIMP. Absolutely pathetic and it's probably a winning strategy sadly.

And the GOP star witness in Bidengate just got charged with lying to the FBI about said claims. www.npr.org/2024/02/15/1231884999/fbi-informant-charged-lying-joe-hunter-biden-ukraine-burismaAlmost like the party of criminals are liars as well. Star witness in Georgia also resigned by force due to multiple disciplinary issues, which ended her friendship with Willis. Provided zero evidence of her claims as well. Willis and Wade not out of the woods as they believe in using cash, which today is deemed suspicious and evidence of wrongdoing, but case is a lot weaker than presented. /// March 25th is the Trump criminal start in NYC over his hush payments. Next week should have the Trump Org verdict that will likely wipe away a substantial chunk of his wealth due to evidence of his witnesses lying on the stand being presented.
