Glad Leon snuck in, wasn't sure if that'd have the support to make it, was my #12. Really phenomenal start to finish, with Stansfeld being an all time best crooked cop. "This is from Matilda." just gets me giddy every single time.

Between UT , thereallt , and myself... I'm sure it'll place well. Is that a joke? My loathing of the Scream franchise is almost as well documented as my loathing of Armageddon. Even objectively speaking Scream making top 3 would be a joke. But which do you hate MORE?

But which do you hate MORE? Armageddon easily. While I find Scream highly overrated and not scary in the least, it dosen't require giving myself a lobotomy to watch.

Highly influential to action movie genre in that if nothing else it created Bullet Time.
Also, the themes haunted me and stuck with me in a way nothing else had since the first Terminator.
Could probably still be convinced to this day that we're all living in a simulation.

Decided to post them both since they've shown up on probably more lists than any other movie , although SPR hasn't shown up in quite some time. Both juggernauts of these countdowns and films in the 90's and I was pretty shocked to see they didn't finish higher than this in the end.
Saving Private Ryan has some amazing , monumental and groundbreaking moments. I don't find the whole film as rewatchable though so it missed my list. The Matrix actually bores me so that had 0% chance of making my list.

Saving Private Ryan is WAY too low, and that is partially my fault as I got the date it was made mixed up. (I thought it was early 2000's) Otherwise this would have easily been top 4. It's the greatest war movie ever filmed hands down. The fact a mediocre piece like Scream is likely to place above it is sad.
The Matrix on the other hand I had ranked #7. 13?? In which universe? The Matrix was easily one of the most iconic films of the decade.

Sad as fuck it's this low, but the 90s were LOADED... so... and also but I don't want to be one of "those guys" who bitches and moans about everything else coming afterward not being deserving of a higher spot. Greatest opening act in cinema history, IMO. Captured the 90s-ness in an out of the box way by showcasing such iconic power players Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg, Matt Damon, Time Sizemore, Ted Danson, Paul Giamatti, Vin Diesel, Giovani Ribisi, Edward Burns, and Adam Goldberg but in a timeless way. I can't remember, but wasn't there no WWII momument in DC before this movie was released? And then Hanks and Spielberg helped the campaign to push for the monument? I can't really remember, but honestly... to me, this movie is so well done, it stands up as a living monument to all those brave GIs. Highly influential as well, as the realism of the violence seemed to bleed into subsequent war and action movies. Also spawned the best mini series in television history in Band of Brothers and then the second best in The Pacific.

Both were on my list but ranked fairly low as I felt they needed to be on the list but neither were favourites of mine. However, I agree with 🤯 about the opening scene of Private Ryan. It was so realistic it actually took me 4 times to get through the opening scene without crying. The first time I actually left the theatre. I have always had a hard time with war movies but Private Ryan took the cake for making me uncomfortable.

When I think "90s movie," I don't think Saving Private Ryan. But the 90s were probably the golden age of the movie theatre trip, and that was the one movie from that decade where you HAD to go see it in the theatre.
Incredible experience and a great movie. Definitely worthy.

I had Saving Private Ryan at 15 because it was such a landmark war movie. It is a bit of a chore to watch though and I don't find it quite as compelling as Platoon, Apocalypse Now or Full Metal Jacket.

Wow. 4 movies in and none of mine made it yet. Shocking.
Matrix was my last cut and I didn’t feel bad about it because I assumed it was on everyone’s list but it was a game changer in the 90s for sure.
Pretty Woman and Leon though? Seriously? Out of all the amazing 90 movies these two made it? Boo.

Apart from the French plantation scenes, the cast of characters they meet and all the other stuff that happened on that journey down the river I find to be more interesting. Kilgore's raid and beach BBQ, encountering the tiger, the Playboy Bunnies, Roach at the Du-Long Bridge etc. are much more memorable to me.

Apocalypse Now is a WAY bigger chore to watch. Are you referring to Redux (3¼ hr)? Theatrical cut (2½ hr) is where it is at. 13th highest rated 90s film on IMDb, so it isn't like it should be a surprise that it is popular in a list like this.

Speaking of chores...
I love Mel Gibson almost like I love Brock, but Braveheart... so overhyped, so dumb.

Braveheart is one of the movies I'm surprised doesn't show up on more list but I'm happy to see it here and think it's placed well just outside of the top ten. Beautiful job by Gibson both in front of and behind the camera but especially direction. I don't care how true to the actual story it is , the world he built , the costumes and the aesthetics all feel authentic and that's why the movie takes you on so many emotional turns. William Wallace is one of cinema's true badasses and greatest characters and you feel it with everything in your being when he yells the now infamous FREEEEDOM at the end.
As I said , I think I had it #12 , one of the few epic type movies I can go back and watch anytime so it's a perfect placement here.

The best part about Braveheart and my experience with it... I'd never seen it before, to Wife's astonishment. So she makes a point to have me watch it. The first time I watch it? Literally the same day Scotland voted "meh, we don't want our independence after all"... really took the whole point out of the movie, and made the ending kinda hilarious in hindsight.

I mean, it's no English Patient... that's for sure. But it probably could've cut 30 minutes and been just as good if not better.
