As much as I love Dolph, because he should be a national treasure. I didn't vote for Drago. I didn't vote for Clubber either, but I did vote for Apollo, because in the long run, he's far more important. Dolph @ 52All of that and he has a master's degree in chemical engineering!!! Is there anything he can't do?

Is there anything he can't do? 160 IQ...he scared off the masked burglars who tied up his wife and were about to rob his house, but saw him in a family photo and figured out whose house they were in. They quickly fled realizing their mistake.

Drago was my number 5 and I would have put Clubber on my list as well if I wasn't so self-conscious with the Rocky love. Clubber does have more quotable scenes though. "I'll take you to my apartment and show you a real man.", "dead meat", "prediction: pain", "I pity the fool" which was huge in 80's culture. Clubber gets the nod there but Drago killing Apollo makes him a bigger villain overall. Didn't Clubber make Mickey have a heart attack? That's easily as heelish as killing Apollo. At least Apollo was a trained fighter. Mickey was an old man. Clubber's was a little more inadvertent, he just saw some guy in his way and shoved him into the railing. Drago was proving a point.

Ricky Vaughn is great , made my list towards the bottom but he is definitely one of the more entertaining sports characters and has one of the best looks. Plus the Wild Thing entrance is a thing of legends.

I like Major League, but Rick Vaughn is the third most interesting character to me.

Ricky Vaughn was my #2. Major League is by far my favorite baseball movie and Wild Thing was the biggest stand out for me.

I'm getting a little nervous.
If my #1 Air Bud doesn't make the overall list, I swear to god...

Ricky Vaughn was my number 9 pretty much echoing UT's sentiments. He had a unique look and his own entrance, was that a thing for relievers before this movie? Mariano Rivera made the walk out so legendary.

I'm getting a little nervous. If my #1 Air Bud doesn't make the overall list, I swear to god... I'm going out on a limb and saying it won't Which is absurd. Considering the amount of sports he played, at the level he played them... AS A FUCKING DOG... That's the kind of relative talent no human character on this list ever had or could dream of having.

Just a quick backup to the League of Their Own talk -
1) How could we be comparing Dottie (or Kit) in skill compared to the rest of the league when we never saw the rest of the league play?
2) I don’t believe the end actually suggests Dottie and Kit didn’t talk for forty years. They’re obviously happy and overwhelmed with the Hall of Fame thing and they probably don’t live close to each other, but they don’t interact like people who haven’t seen each other in that long.

I threw Ricky Vaughn on my list at #7. The field really thins out after the Top 5 as far as I'm concerned. Well, 6 if I would have remembered Al Bundy.
I was never much of a Major League fan. Baseball was serious business, not a vehicle for cheap laughs. Still, Vaughn had a memorable gimmick with the "Wild Thing" schtick and glasses.

Because they say that Dottie is the most popular player in the league and it's at least suggested she's the best - certainly on her team but overall it's to be interpreted. Also don't one of her kids or grandkids (or both) make a comment to Dottie at the end eluding to her and Kit being estranged? I could have sworn that happened. I can't find the exact quote but this was in the oral history of it , so I assume it's there in the movie.

The Replacements is one of the best and easily most overlooked sports movies around and Falco is a great lead in that , I love that he goes from choker to champion in the scabs league but shows the talent that made him intriguing at one point - to the point where Hackman needs him as his quarterback. I don't know where he would fit in the league based on his implied skills - I think of him as maybe a very cheap version of a Steve Young. Right down to being a lefty. I bet he could be a meddling NFL quarterback if given the chance.

Shane Falco was my #3. I usually don't like Keanu in "everyman" roles but he knocked it out the park as an everyman sports hero.

I’ve got it on my TiVo so I should really just go verify this, but I think I’m the beginning of the movie they say Dottie doesn’t see her sister often and Kit’s kids know Dottie so it’s hard to think they’re estranged but everybody else is lovely with each other. My research said though that the original cut was supposed to suggest they’ve not seen each other since and test audiences didn’t buy it so they changed it.

I had Shane at #2. He went from a guy that hated his history, to a guy that was able to be good with his existence and move his life forward. He got a little more time to right his wrongs, play a couple of pro games and then go out quietly.

Wife and I love Replacements. One of our more rewatched movies, I think. Aside from Falco, also love the kicker.

I thought that was Tim Riggins in UT's first post and thought to myself that maybe I should have put in my top 10 Friday Night Lights list after all...

Yeah, I'm a little stunned Baker-man has never seen Replacements. Seems like a movie right up his alley.

Whoa. Recommendations from UT and 🤯 . That settles it. I'll have to put Replacements in the queue. Still want to rewatch a half-dozen or so Conan The Adventurer episodes first though. Maybe I'll even do an extremely rare Baker Movie Review? Think the only one I've ever done on either PW is when Nobi got me to rewatch Bloodsport for the first time in like 15 years.

The Jet was my easy #1 , Sandlot is one of my favorite movies of all time (even placed on MY 90's list) and Benny was the ultimate 5 tool baseball player in that movie. Excelling at every position , teaching Smalls how to even begin to play baseball. His love for the game was impeccable and he was just fucking cool about everything.
Shattering the baseball under the fireworks was one thing , but outrunning the beast is about as big of an accomplishment as winning a world series. At least that's how its presented and it was a beautiful climax to the movie - with the nice little topper of showing him make it pro at the end.
Mother fucking still got to get me a pair of PF Flyers.

The Jet was my #7 for much of the same reasons UT listed.
There is only one logical pick for #1 though and I'm sure PW will make the right choice.

Benny The Jet was my #6 and I was pleasantly surprised to see him finish so high. Wasn't sure if PW was a Sandlot-friendly zone. That's another movie which could easily make my 90s list. UT covered most of the highlights but forgot Benny intentionally hitting the ball into Smalls' glove. Stuff of legend right there.
