Better use of time than watching "so bad it's good" WWF Superstars. Who are you to doubt Tom Stone? 🤨

So ummm is the Broken Verse based on Whoville?
Because Cybermen are all about maximum deletion.
DELETE. DELETE. DELETE.
Feels a little similar to the Daleks though with the repeating line and the voice. EXTERMINATE.

So that regeneration? For those who did not see it, first look at the 14th. And yeah this would be a pretty major spoiler since it is not Ncuti Gatwa as he is playing the 15th.

So I was looking up the Daleks to see if there's any relation to the Ultroms (Krang) and them. Saw there's a new upcoming Dr but then the collage of previous doctors showed Tennant twice. Holy shit is he getting a mini run between the female and the new one?
Still gotta start season 3 one day...

Yeah Tennant tagged back in to be the 14th. I need to catch up. I tapped out during the 13th's run as the writing was awful.
So psyched for the 60th anniversary specials coming as we get Donna back finally too. Wonder if we get the Doctor Donna in it o.O

Oh man, I love(d) Doctor Who, Spotty and Rogue got me into the series on the old board. Honestly, though, I really haven't kept up with it in recent years, although after a quick look not much as really happened and I'm only really a season/series behind on it.

I chalk it up to the companions though, I mean I never much liked any of them. To many never felt as personal. This last season was better when it was Down to two… but I don’t why we needed a new guy. Anyway I thought she was good. Overall agree writing not so good.any I did manage to finish it but it wasn’t as must see as past seasons have been for me. Looking forward to both 14 and 15 and I’d watch NPH in about anything.

This is the problem with old Who, no one really has it arranged in order, so you like pick at random blocks and hope you are going the right way. Then not everything is online either, so some chunks are just gone.

Timely bump. Now I'm thinking about giving classic Doctor Who the same treatment I gave Highlander a few months back. You could have tied it right in by starting with this one, but unfortunately it got the Matt Hardy treatment! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Highlanders_(Doctor_Who)If only! It would work on multiple levels since The Highlanders also introduces my 2nd favorite companion in Jamie McCrimmon! =========== Been on a Doctor Who kick all week. The plan is to watch every single existing episode in order. We'll see how far I get. Watched the first three serials for the first time in a few dog ages. May expand on this later, but just some relatively quick synopses for now... An Unearthly Child- The one that started it all. First episode is a classic. Next three held my attention more than I was honestly expecting. Guess I'm more tolerant than most when it comes to caveman politics and drama over fire making? Love how Wiliam Hartnell's grumpy old man Doctor is more of an antihero than the Nerd Superman (my term) or Space Jesus (an amusingly accurate term I recently came across) the character would eventually morph into. Also liked how the cavemen were varying shades of gray rather than clear cut good guys and bad guys. Good stuff. The Daleks- An equally iconic story that introduces The Doctor's most famous enemy (even if I happen to be more of a Roger Delgado Master kind of guy) which lead to Dalekmania taking the UK by storm and turning Doctor Who into a British (later worldwide) institution. But you know what? This 7 parter sure does drag. Episode 6 is particularly slow going. The Daleks themselves would be done much better in later episodes. Didn't hate it, but did find it disappointing given its legendary status. We also get our first of many...so, so many...bad Doctor Who climaxes. Edge of Destruction- First 2/3 of this two parter were tremendous. It's all paranoia and claustrophobia as our team is trapped in the wonky TARDIS. Susan goes off the deep end. The Doctor is an even bigger jerk than usual. Barbara finally gives him a long overdo verbal smackdown. It's shaping up to be the best one yet by a country mile. But the final 1/3 brings it down with another anticlimactic wtf ending.

Six-parters should never have been allowed - they always dragged on too long with way too much story padding. It's like making Raw three hours - it's just unnecessary! I've been watching some Pertwee stories recently and every six-parter could have easily been done in four (or three in some cases TBH). Obviously it's cheaper to make two six-parters than three four-parters, but those long stories are always a drag to watch. If Jamie is your #2, who's your fav Baker?!

When I first became a Whovian in the late 90s I loved the long stories. The longer the better! Doctor Who aired here Friday & Saturday nights on PBS from Midnight-??. I never knew when it would end! The TV Guide that came with the Sunday newspaper was not helpful on that front. And when it did end the station went off the air! They'd play the National Anthem. Then....nothing for a few hours. It was weird! Anyway, I'd be soooo disappointed to get something like the two part Edge of Destruction whereas something like the epic ten part War Games (my all time favorite Doctor Who story btw) had me giddy as a schoolgirl. The more Who the better to late 90s me. I get bored more easily nowadays. Sad. Enjoy those Pertwee episodes! I'm sure you will! Pertwee is my favorite Doctor and it's not even close. Also there is no such thing as a Pertwee story that goes too long! I'm sure they could have been done quicker, but that would mean less Jon Pertwee, and only a monster would want that. The GOAT

Question for tru Whovians...The Green Death or Planet of the Spiders: which one do you think caused more tears to be shed? ============ Watched the first two installments of a random Tom Baker (no relation, thank goodness) serial called Warriors' Gate and was lost the entire time. Might be my new go to example of bad classic Who. Any fans of this one?

Settled into a pattern of watching two episodes per day. Let's see how far I take this. Given my limited attention span and penchant for pooping out on projects I'll consider it a major win if I make it through my beloved Pertwee Era. I'm going in order but skipping all the missing episodes for now.
Quick thoughts on the main characters....Back in the day I always liked the First Doctor, Ian, and Barbara while Susan grated on me like nails on a chalkboard with her incessant screaming. And nowadays a full quarter century after first experiencing these episodes my opinion has not changed one iota. The Doctor is a hoot. Ian is your traditional hero. Barbara is clever and competent. But Susan has got to go. Susan=BOO! Others=Yay!
The cheap sets and laughable special effects rarely bother me so I will rarely comment on them. Got used to it a long time ago and if anything I consider it part of the charm when it comes to classic Who. Oh sure. The first episode I ever watched (The Five Doctors in late 96 as a bridge to AWF at 2 a.m.) fell into that ironic "so bad it's good" category. And I'd flip over to Doctor Who after that from time to time just for the lulz. But after a while I got hooked on the stories and characters and this ancient British show with a ÂŁ2 budget quickly went from 'so bad it's good' to unironically become one of my all time favorite shows.
The Keys of Marinus- A mixed bag. The Tardis Team being sent on a bunch of different quests to find the titular keys (which are actually microchips) was a clever idea which kept this six parter from dragging since nearly every episode featured a new setting and a new adventure. Reminded me of an old school NES game. Think of the Keys as Triforces. There were also some clever little moments, particularly those involving the villainous Voord in Episode One. On the other hand you could drive an entire fleet of Lex Expresses through all the gaping plot holes. They really didn't do a good job of thinking this one through.
Episode 1 set the stage. Ep 2 saw them enter a sort of Lotus Land where these brain slug things in glass jars cast a glamor on everybody. Our Tardis Team only had one working brain between the four of them here and it surprisingly never reached The Doctor. Ian had it first before passing off to Barbara who saved the day by smashing up the brain slug things in glass jars. Wish she would have actually cracked the jars but I doubt the BBC budget stretched that far and I'm not even joking. Ep 3 had a creepy statue and a living jungle. This one was forgettable. Ep 4 saw them get played by a creepy brute of a fur trader. This guy and the brain slug jar things were quality villains. Classic Who often did a good job of coming up with real hateable villains. Ep 5 saw Ian on trial in a kangaroo court with The Doctor as his lawyer after being framed for murder by a trio of villains who would slowly be revealed one by one. Ian's trial extended into Ep 6 where they finally got the last key and saved the day, albeit in a roundabout sort of way. While this story did have its share of flaws at least I wasn't bored.
Oh, and check this out. In Ep 1 this dude Arbitan set the whole thing in motion by blackmailing the Tardis Team into collecting his Keys so he could then use his super computer to brainwash the entire population of the planet. He made this crystal clear and the Tardis Team only mildly objected, meaning we were supposed to view Arbitan as a "good guy." I assumed this would be a classic Doctor Who twist where the "good guy" would actually turn out to be the big bad. Nope! The blackmailer using a super computer to brainwash an entire planet actually was a good guy in this story. Very weird! He ended up getting stabbed to death early on. Can't say I missed him. The big climax sucked again too. Have a feeling I'll be writing that for a good 75% of these episodes.
Fashion Watch: Ian spent all six episodes wearing an absolutely fabulous kimono he picked up during the sadly missing Marco Polo serial. Would wear!
The Doctor has already softened considerably from his origins as a grumpy old antihero. He was absent for two episodes in the middle. I was hoping a real life Doctor changed real life history and Susan would magically be replaced by a girl they picked up in Lotus Land named Sabetha. Alas, it was not to be. Looks like I'll be stuck with Susan for a while longer. Hope my ears survive...
Verdict- Entertaining crap. The Doctor Who version of 1999 WWF. Actually most classic Doctor Who falls into this category lol

I agree that there were a couple of good episodes, specifically the last one with the daleks, Cybermen and Master. Love this version of the master. I am on the record despising that they made the Doctor a female, which was never a part of timelord lore until recently. Where it fell over is that most of the writing in Whittaker's run was poor and they didn't know how to write a female doctor and she seems to flounder in how to play the role. Tenant is fantastic, should bring the people back who fell off. I also hate the retcon that the Doctor is now immortal and not a Time Lord, they need to fix that. I'm not racist either, I could see the doctor being a Black man or Asian, just shouldn't have been a woman.

I've only seen three full Pertwee stories so far (and I'm partway through another one) - I think Pertwee himself is great and I like Jo too, but the stories haven't really been blowing me away. The Three Doctors was pretty good. I thought the (three) Doctors were funny together - and it wasn't too long! I was convinced Carnival of Monsters was a six-parter, but it was only four. It still felt a bit too long though - there were some interesting ideas, but it just didn't really work for me. But it wasn't awful (and I'd definitely be willing to watch it again someday). Frontier in Space drained the life out of me. Six episodes of The Doctor and Jo going in and out of cells. Long and boring! The Master made it more interesting (obviously), but it was all just dragged out. Planet of the Daleks is good so far, but again - it's too long. If it was only four episodes, I think it would have been a great story! I've heard The Green Death is a good one, but I'm not sure I can handle another six-part "epic" after I finish Planet!

Is Classic Who hour or 30 minutes? Because if it's an hour drama and going 6 episodes for a story/serial, that's a long time. Like those overused 3 hr runtimes in movies!

Ness They're about 25 minutes per episode, but each episode of Frontier in Space felt like it was about nine hours long.
