Just had the 60th anniversary. Absolutely amazing. NPH was the Toymaker, a villain of first doctor that is basically a God. This wraps up the saga of the 14th. Absolutely amazing send off for Tennant.
Villain of the new season likely to be the One Who Waits, the only one the Toymaker feared to play a game with. Master is also in play again with someone it appears looking to bring him back.
By far, the most unique regeneration yet as well. New doctor is def a cool take too.

Back on this. Watched the 10-part War Games this week. It was my favorite Doctor Who serial back in the day. Blew my mind the first time I saw it. Hugely important to the mythology of the show. One of the 4 or 5 most important episodes in Doctor Who history. Watching it for the first time back around '97 is when my Doctor Who fandom leveled up. It's basically to Doctor Who what Survivor Series 95 was to my wrestling fandom. I don't want to spoil too much, or ramble on and on like I normally do, so I'll just say the best parts of this one are still really, really good. Liked the main storyline and the feuding villains. Then business really picked up in the final episode. The Time Lords peaked here. Nowadays I realize there was a lot of filler though. It was probably twice as long as it needed to be. I'd likely feel the same way about DBZ were I to rewatch that. Which I have no intention of doing!
Jon GOAT Pertwee is up next. Let's do this.

I do think Pertwee onwards is when the lore starts to really get good.

The Doctor being banished on Earth was the worst era ever in Dr Who I think, I really didn't enjoy that at all. I do think Pertwee onwards is when the lore starts to really get good. We'll have to disagree on this one. I enjoyed the Doctor on Earth episodes. Even loved many of them. It was something different. I'll admit it could have become boring, but I feel like they did a good job of keeping it interesting by coming up with good stories, and they reverted back to the old formula before the new one could get stale. Plus the Doctor's quest to repair his TARDIS so he could flee gave the series an additional hook. Poor frustrated Doctor. First Pertwee season is 4 for 4 in my book. Then it only gets better from there with the edition of Delgado's Master, Jo Grant, and UNIT getting even more screen time. The Jo/Delgado Era is peak Doctor Who for me. I'm a Pertwee Guy til the day I die.

Just finished watching Spearhead from Space. Great introduction to Pertwee. Another classic.

I've admittedly never heard or read of an X Files creator mentioning Doctor Who as an influence, but I still have my suspicions.

Watched Doctor Who and the Silurians last week and Ambassadors of Death this week. These Pertwee episodes still hit the spot. And it's only fixing to get better once Jo and the Master come aboard after Inferno, which I have already started. Ness if you ever decide to watch Classic Doctor Who, which I know you won't, start with The War Games and work your way through the Pertwee Era. There are valid reasons for this! Beyond my obvious favoritism. So the main shows I watch nowadays are Cheers and classic Doctor Who and now I am about to make an Oregon Trail post. Major 97-98 vibes. Meaning I've finally moved on from 95-96!

Started watching Inferno and was reminded of "digging bad" being an overarching theme of the Pertwee Era. So far we're 2 for 4 in "drilling causes the apocalypse" serials. I'll keep a score through the Pertwee Years. Prediction: 30-50% of Pertwee serials will feature a "drilling bad" theme.

Honestly I'm on an extended break from Who. I'm not sure if I plan to continue. Was kinda bored mid way through season 3 and haven't gone back since. Might check out these Disney Who specials but the completionist in me just can't do something like just start at a random spot. For instance I want to see things like the master, smith's run, amy pond, more dalek goodness... but it just hasn't been grabbing me lately ya know?
