I need to make a thread because it’s getting out of hand up here. We’ve spent enough time laughing at the United States. We need to take a look in the damn mirror up here.

For those not following along, a group of “truckers” (I use that term loosely because very few actual truckers show up for this) formed a convoy that drove across the country (mostly from Alberta) and arrived in Ottawa this past Friday. Their plan? Overthrow the government.

I’m not joking.

They started by saying they were upset at vaccine mandates that prevented unvaccinated truckers from crossing into the US. Keep in mind it is a US mandate that is causing this, not a Canadian one. This convoy was organized by known members of Soldiers of Odin and the Three Percenters. Y’know, white supremacist groups listed on terrorist watchlists. That old chestnut.

Since then they’ve been parked in the streets of downtown Ottawa honking their horns and disrupting life for the citizens that live there. There have been reports of people defacating in the streets, stealing from homeless shelters, general fuckery, that sort of thing.

On top of that, the Conservative Party just voted out their leader because he gave mixed messages over the weekend about whether or not he supported this nonsense. He was already on thin ice because he fucked up in the last federal election, and now we’re here.

Our capital is being held hostage by a few hundred racists and the official opposition party is about to elect a new leader that will be even more racist and homophobic than the last guy.

Oh and our Prime Minister has COVID.

I want to preface what I'm about to say by saying, I in no way agree with what's going on in Ottawa, however, I believe there's been a lot of bandwagon jumpers. People who took the truckers crusade and ran with it for their own agendas. I don't know that I agree with the truckers mandate per se, but I do know, as RT pointed out that it was put in place by the US and not Ottawa. The issue I'm having is that they are essentially blocking the borders now and shipments aren't getting through, whether they are vaccinated or not, etc. My mom was listening to CBC radio and a trucker called in bringing up fruits and vegetables from the US for a grocery store and said the customs agents wouldn't even talk with them just told them to wait or turn around. The protestors are staying a week they said. Who can afford to not work for a week? I sure can't.

I don't laugh when I watch the US news anymore because I KNOW if we had the same population, it wouldn't look much different here.  I also live in 'Berta.  Redneck heaven. 

So what I am hearing is that clearly the US needs to build a wall to keep these illegal immigrants out of our country!!!

Welcome to living in Alberta

They announced this was funding at least in part, by Americans and Americans will be coming in support the truckers. This is our time. Once they leave build the wall so they cannot come back. Your problem now.  

I really hope we get arrests with people saying they know their first and second amendments rights.

Mistakes have been made...

A) I'm not sure I believe everything that's being said from that side. A lot of them who have rallied with the truckers, believe and spread some strange crap.

B) Guess they didn't do much in the way of planning for contingencies hmmmm?

From what we seen in the US, this side does not plan, they just do really. They get wrapped up in the moment and just want to be part of something, and believe the hype that what they are doing is so huge and so important and they will force the government to listen to them and do what they want. They give in to the false reality everyone is creating. Then reality hits back and they get a slap in the face when they realize what they did was really stupid, wasteful or very illegal.

They let it go on too long. Yesterday there were demonstrations here that unfortunately a few of my good friends took part in. If I were a BIPOC or LGTAQ+ I'd be counter protesting. 'Oh...you feel oppressed? Tell me how that feels.' I'd wager to bet at least 98% of those in support of this haven't been truly oppressed in their life.

Trudeau should show strength and have the protesters shot. By allowing this he looks weak to the world. He should personally shoot on TV, be great for ratings.

I don’t hate Trudeau like many Albertans but I do think he’s shown a lack of cojones on several fronts. This is one of them.

They have the right to protest but this is tantamount to a giant tantrum with some far reaching consequences. It’s a real rock and a hard place issue. If he does do anything he proves their ‘point’. ‘See the government is taking away our right to protest.’ No, morons they are just trying to stop your moronic selves from making this even a bigger mess since the word ‘planning’ didn’t seem to cross your idiot minds! I mean tying up traffic in various cities, some of the people who support your ‘cause’ spreading hate.

There is talk when they are kicked out they may just move into the US and protest in NY state somewhere.

At least one person in the Liberal party has the guts to say what needs to be said. Trudeau's stance and leadership at the start of this convoy nonsense was good, but over the past week he hasn't done anything and keeps doubling down on the same buzz words. He needs to lay out a clear plan for ending restrictions, and now that Ottawa is in a state of emergency, he needs to step in and do something. This has gone on long enough.

And now they're all going to claim victory even though this has been in the works for weeks, possibly months. Moe was saying as early as December that he planned to lift restrictions before March.
