I want to preface this by saying I didn't agree with the decision for people to lose their jobs if they weren't vaccinated (except in the case of health care workers), but I understood it. They were trying to keep the health care system and economy from crumbling. No politician, including JT wanted to make that call, it was career suicide, but at a few points there was little choice.

A big issue I am having with it is a lot of my military and RCMP/police friends agree with the protest so that lends to the idea that if they feel that way then maybe other military, police and RCMP do as well, therefore the reason these protestors are being 'handled' differently than BLM, Environmental or Indigenous protestors is because their ideals align.

I hate The Emergencies Act, because it's a slippery slope but I don't know what other choice we have at the moment.  I believe in the right to protest and I believe there are people involved with this protest with legitimate complaints, but it has now changed from protest to terrorism.  My family is in Ottawa and their take on this is much different than the Albertan take.  What they are telling me they've witnessed is atrocious.  What is the government supposed to do?  Let these extremists hold up the country for a billion dollars a day (cause that's what it's costing us), sabotage jobs and livelihoods on both sides of the border without consequence?  Are they making their point?  Maybe, but they are also costing fellow citizens and tax payers undo harm because you think you rights trump theirs.

If you have read my posts you will know that above all I am a realist.
I don't support the truckers, I don't support the blockade and I don't support governments over reaching.

I understand the motive being right and just, I just don't think people realise that these moments shape the world for years, every freedom surrendered is one that is nearly impossible to get back.

Maybe I'm not being clear, but the path we are on is not a good one. The situation in Canada as well as the situation everywhere else is a sign that we are breaking down as a society and we are coming apart at the seams.
This is alarming and yes, maybe we need to clear some trucks in the short term, but we need to put more effort back into fixing the underlying rifts that are tearing countries apart.

It's easy to say its a right problem or a left problem but it's far deeper and more dire than that.

This is what happens when you allow hate speech under the guise of free speech. Only gonna get worse. I really hope we get the dirtbag left getting a left wing version of Tucker on the air asking things why it is not ok to shoot a trucker who is blocking traffic and stealing your rights.

I actually agree with iNCY. The precedent this sets isn't good. I don't give two shits about right wing Canadians butthurt feelings over the jab, more so the government potentially using this as an excuse to strip away more rights or take petty shots at a certain demo they oppose, whether it be JT/a future administration targeting right or left.

Words have meaning and "terrorist" is not a term to be thrown around lightly. I get they had to do something, but that doesn't mean you pull a Maple Leaf 9/11 in response. There had to have been a better compromise that doesn't result in the decay of autonomy for all Canadian citizens.

That's an over-simplistic view of the world.
The real problem is that we have no honesty in our society, people say whatever it takes to get the next election or the next promotion then finds a group to blame when the impossible never materialises.

Someone is going to have to sit the world down and explain the way things are... Maybe I will make a thread about it.

I saw they confiscated a HUGE weapons cache from protestors at the Coutts, AB border, but that's it.

In all seriousness, I lean more libertarian than collectivist but still retain mostly left wing views. I don't really fit in with either side and so I thought I was centrist for awhile before realizing centrism is just a stupid non-ideology. There's just certain social issues I'll never agree with the right on, like abortion, trans rights and having an honest discussion about the racial divides/history in America. But what we often agree on is individual rights and some other populist issues.

Fox this morning called for the US to annex Canada and build a wall to prevent their brutal dictatorship from spreading south.

Conservative PACs fundraising to bring this to America starting on March 6th to shut down DC.

I'm referring to Left libertarianism/Egalitarian libertarianism. I don't subscribe to one ideology but somewhere between that or certain tenants of progressivism probably fits the best. I'm not some America-hating commie like c . :brows:

I lean right more than she does (she is FULL LEFT), but as rad said it truly depends on the issue for me as to where I stand.  You should have seen when I brought a military guy home.  Hoo boy.  Momma IM almost kicked my ass, except she doesn't believe in violence or war, but suffice to say it went over like a fart in church.   Then when I married him and got knocked up...I thought she was going to join a commune, change her name to Butterfly and spend the rest of her life underwater basket weaving.  Good thing I gave birth to a hippie soul just like her.   It kept her around.

Some of them lean left, some of them lean right.   The one thing ALL libertarians do agree upon is the government overstepping their bounds.   And the federal government has been getting more authoritarian by the year.
