Canadian-style tyranny is hitting the streets of Ottawa today. Police blocked every access route into downtown last night, then moved in at first light and are beginning to round up everyone that isn’t currently trying to leave.
Y’all had your fun, time to go home. Hope you still have jobs when you get back to wherever you came from, because you ain’t getting that gofundme money.
Idiots grifted again by slightly less stupid idiots. The circle of life continues.

I learned about Pot Guy and Balcony Guy. I'd be Balcony Guy. Fuck you and fuck off. iNCY is right though. All of this is indicative of larger systemic issues. We all know it just no one knows how to fix it. Oh, we can all 'armchair' it, but until you are actually the one in charge and she how tied your hands are because of greed, corruption and other variables, we can't know the extent of the damage. Systems are breaking down because there hasn't been enough change over the years to adapt to societal changes/injustices and now HERE WE ARE.

I'm about 60 minutes from the US border at both North Dakota and Minnesota. Some bored farmers blocked both highways north and south so nobody is getting in or out. Thanks for stopping ours goods from rolling in. Been about a week since the Freedumb farmers setup downtown. They harass everybody and honk their horns non stop. On Monday they got a train horn and hooked it up to the air compressor in one of the diesel trucks. You can hear that thing from so far away. I really feel for the residents. I only work downtown. And police? You got it. Doing nothing because they don't want to "incite" the protesters. No wonder we want to defund them. They now take up 25% of the municipal budget. They'll break up Indigenous and BLM protests but not bored white farmers and their racist out of work white supremacist friends. I'm disgusted. I'm embarrassed that this loud, awful minority group of idiots have shut down a major road downtown to blare horns and a train whistle all day and night because they don't want to wear masks to shop, or get a needle to go to a restaurant. I know, it has been ridiculous. WPS saying "Well we aren't issuing tickets because we don't want escalation" Yet I clearly see photo radar vans in schools zones on stat holidays ticketing people who dare go over 30km/h but people who are clearly violating multiple traffic and noise laws don't get tickets!? I was waiting downtown last week during one of the +2 days as I needed to take a bus to Manitoba Clinic for an eye exam so was wearing a mask. One of the truck nuts decided to drive as fast as he could and close to to the curb as he could though a large puddle to soak me. This whole thing has been ridiculous. The Ottawa "leaders" have clear white supremacy ties and the gofundme's are linked to their person bank accounts. This needs to end.

Been warning for years about the dangers not requiring news report to be factual or balanced. But we killed first the balanced side, then we killed the factual side. So now we report news as entertainment, claim no reasonable person can believe things like vaccine being harmful, and say that it is free speech to encourage people to join these protests.

Over 100 arrested in protests.
Or as we would report in America - 100 people rounded up by secret police in Canada and moved to detention camps as socialist dictators attack free speech in Canada.

Great news all. Some Southern States are passing asylum bills for Canadian political refugees. If you would like to come live in a great place like Alabama or Mississippi to avoid your brutal government come on down!!!
Surely you would rather live in a place with these fine people than your own countrymen. We got the butthole!!!

OMG literally dying. Dwayne Lich, one of the protest organizers, tried to plea in court that his wife was protected because of her first amendment rights, which were being violated by the emergency act. He clearly did his own research. Tamara Lich did not believe her acts were illegal either because they were protected by the 1st amendment. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa/tamara-lich-bail-hearing-february-19-1.6358307

If we attempt to interpret the charter the same way, the first "amendment" would be welcoming my Province, Manitoba into Canada in 1870. So yeah! Manitoba knows its rights!!!

Our city is in mourning right now. We had 2 cops shot and killed by a 16 year old yesterday. Apparently, they didn't even get time to discharge their weapons before they were shot. Apparently, the boy shot his mother (who is recovering) which is what prompted the 911 call and also an older gentleman at Pizza Hut (who has life threatening injuries) the night before. He took his own life - which isn't justice, but he'd never have survived the night. I was just in San Antonio and honestly although they warned me it was bad there (and I saw the bad), it wasn't much different than here which is sad as we have 1/3 of the population. I don't know what the answer is, but I just know whatever we are doing right now is not working.

No, we are destined for a Conservative majority come October. The only positive I can gleem is that Poilevere is such a gross bootlicker that we may get some positive trade benefits from Trump once he's in place. He'll be Donald's little Canadian lapdog and it will be disgusting to watch. However if we can get any benefits from our American big bros, could be worth the scene.
I've been fortunate in my job for the past 18-19 years that I've never had to suffer between double conservative governments. Meaning that when Harper was in power, I had a Provincial NDP government. When Trudeau was elected, we went Conservative in MB. And now we've just started year 2 of our new NDP government with the knowledge that Conservative federal rule is coming soon.
My agency is funded pretty close to a 50/50 split between Federal and Provincial cases so it's been tons of fun working with the Conservatives over the years.

Part of our issues here stem from the various levels in government not working together. As you know our Provincial Government actively loathes our Federal Government and our Municipal Government is just sitting back and blaming the other two for nothing working. I mean our Premier literally finds a way to take a dig at the Prime Minister every chance she gets. All but blaming her hemorrhoids on him. People would love to say it's her but really there are worse behind her. Sigh.
It confounds me how little people actually know about tariffs. I got into a 'discussion' about them with the guy who says he's an economics major and that I'm wrong but I don't appear to be. Like most things, tariffs are great...in theory. But in actuality they don't work like people think they do.
This guy (economy major) at site was all gung ho about more tariffs and I'm like 'you know they don't work like you think they work right?' For instance. I posted about Canada recently imposing a 25% tariff on Chinese steel in the US Election thread. In theory this should make companies want to use Canadian or American steel, but nope. They moved over to Korean steel because it was still less than North American produced steel. Korea seeing this, raised their prices so they moved to a steel mill in somewhere else. Well guess what...all of them were raising their prices and what's more even the North American steel manufacturers did too which is the issue with tariffs. You think it is protecting your local interests, but what's the point if local businesses are just going to raise their prices and Chinese/Korean steel is still cheaper? CEO's and Share holders wants money and profits. Often times they don't care how they are getting them.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the CPC only gets a minority, but I am not optimistic about it. If there is one thing I will always hate the Trudeau Liberals for it is not delivering on electoral reform.
They saw the world’s governments shifting to the far right and had to know the CPC would follow suit eventually. Now they have all but guaranteed that we will get at least 4 years of a super majority led by the Milhouse to Trump’s Bart Simpson, and they can get there with only 35% of voters voting for them.
Turnout for the next election is gonna suck and it’s going to have the same affect on our election like it did in the US a few days ago. Any seat that is a toss up between Liberal and Conservative is going to flip Conservative, and anyone that refuses to vote Conservative will probably just stay home because the NDP has made themselves a non option yet again.
Don’t get me started on Jagmeet Singh. That fucking tool pisses me off to no end. Jack Layton worked his fucking ass off to restore the NDP party and make them a viable 3rd party option and at least Mulcair had the decency to step down when he realized he couldn’t hold Layton’s boots. Singh seems to be actively trying to destroy the party. I hate that fucking guy so god damn much.

I'd trade you guys Trump/MAGA/NHL for Pollievre/prairie populists any day of the week. Then all these grifting Canadian illegals like Tom MacDonald can move back or find a new scam and give up their US culture war participation trophies, and you guys can get to work on building a wall around us.
Everybody wins...... Maybe even the Leafs.....

Tariff's are a protectionist policy, the idea is great that you safeguard local jobs by putting a price on imports from countries where people are paid less than your workers. Where it breaks down is that tariffs cause workers and companies to become lazy, there is no need to innovate or focus on productivity because you have this giant buffer on price. So you sit back and take it easy while people on the other side of the wall get better and more efficient until even with the tariffs you are dead... I really like the idea of encouraging local manufacturing but there has to be a more nuanced way to achieve this. Also what is the deal with Canada whacking tariffs on Chinese EV's? If there is a climate emergency, doesn't that win out over any other consideration?

If there is a climate emergency, doesn't that win out over any other consideration? From my limited knowledge on the situation all we did was copy what the US did earlier this year (and to a lesser extent the UK who only did a 35% tarriff or something close to that). My guess is Trudeau sees the writing on the wall re: climate. Not enough Canadians give a shit and he needs votes to even have a tiny chance at remaining Prime Minister next year. So he desperately tries to appease the working class by “protecting Canadian jobs” and telling big bad China to get fucked, while also following suit with our biggest trade partner. Like I said, Trudeau talks the progressive talk but rarely delivers and is already backtracking on certain things that he thinks will keep right-leaning voters afraid of the psychos in charge of the CPC on his side. Kind of like the Dems just did in the US and that sure didn’t work out for them. We’re basically going to spend the next year watching the Liberals make all the same mistakes the Dems did then get demolished in the election. Can’t wait.
