Russia in a sham trial just sentenced two captured Brit citizens to death for aiding the Ukraine army claiming they were mercancies and not qualify for the Geneva Conventions protections.
Now no one wants a world war, so sometimes you need to let citizens of NATO countries die in actions that break the laws of war.

Pretty sure the laws of war have been broken several times during this one. It's weird how the West thinks it can wage a proxy war and celebrate the fact and that eventually it won't end at your front door. Doesn't mean you're doing the wrong thing, but it's the same sort of thing that got planes flown into towers.

This may be a different situation since Putin is not likely long for this world, and he was the one who brought Russia back to the soviet attitude.
But executing British citizens will be very hard for NATO to ignore.

I mean, American politics show what you can ignore when you really want to. The fact we make doctors take competency tests at 70 but elect senior citizens to run our government should be a grave concern. While everyone focuses on Trump or Biden, Feinstein is said to walk around in the Senate in a daze most of the time and several elderly senators are noted for falling asleep on the floor.

Fun news on two fronts this week. First Russian TV is reporting that Russia has taken no actions in the Ukraine and the entire scandal is just a media fabrication from the West.
More concerning is Lithuania blocked sanctioned goods from being transported to the Russian oblast of Kaliningrad. Russia claims this is an act of aggression and they will deal with it in any manner they see fit. Russia has been using this as an easy transportation route through the baltics until now. Now ships will have to reroute up to St Peterburg's.
But they say the increasingly deranged Putin may use this as an excuse to take the Suwałki Gap, a 40 mile stretch that connects Kaliningrad to Belarus, that spans the border of Lithuania and Poland, which would be an overt act of aggression against NATO countries to carve off the baltic states from the EU. That gap has been something that Putin has wanted just as badly as he wanted Eastern Ukraine.
Putin's leaked plans have him as soon as war with NATO starts moving into Lithuania and securing that area, with full intentions of keeping it in peace talks while Russia plays cold war with Lithuania until they withdraw from NATO.

Russia shelled the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant again. Not sure the veracity of it, but rumors are they are prepared to blow it up completely and blame the Ukraine.
UN demanding access to the plant now to determine the truth of various rumors that range from a reactor being damaged to the entire place being rigged to explode.

Yeah getting pretty grim. And the world will watch it then later claim no one knew the full extent of the horrors that were going on. This playbook worked the last 100 years, no reason to change it up now.
Russia could blow that nuclear plant and the world will just sit and watch the radiation spread.

I am going to call this the stupidest war ever. It's some sort of moralist masturbation effort. Let's donate billions of dollars to Ukraine, but not in such a way they can win the war. let's dribble out the money at a slow rate so it is just enough to give the Russians a steady stream of shit to blow up. Either cut the money or win the war, but this is stupid... Zelensky is looking more like a clown every day to me. We are in the grip of an invasion, but let me pose on the cover of vogue. Feels like we are living the real life version of The Onion these days. Devex’s Funding Platform has recorded more than $100 billion in commitments for Ukraine between Feb. 24 and Aug. 16. However, a relatively small percentage of that funding is humanitarian-focused. www.devex.com/news/funding-tracker-who-s-sending-aid-to-ukraine-102887$100 billion dollars! What has that achieved?

100 billion is a pittance to destroy the image of the might of the Russian war machine. Iraqi war cost the US 2 trillion by comparison.

Well, Ukraine is an ally of most countries. And you tend to support your allies when they are invaded. China is blocking military action, so this is all people can do to support their ally.

Hard disagree on Zelensky. Being on the cover is about keeping the invasion fresh in people’s minds. He’s surrounded by photographers all the time. I doubt it took long. It’s not like he flew to NYC to do it. He’s been doing great.
The Russian military has completely embarrassed themselves. Poor training, poor planning, poor equipment in poor condition thanks to graft. Ukraine is holding them off with a few NATO castoffs. If Poland decided to get involved directly, they would wipe the Russian forces out.
The need to balance supplying Ukraine vs not getting NATO directly into the fight is complicated but prudent. If NATO and Russia go at it directly there’s a fair chance nukes will be used. No one wants that.
I think Ukraine is also training up a large number of troops outside the country for a counterattack. Currently there aren’t enough Ukraine troops to put a true flood to materiel to use. It would just be sitting in storage. Once the reserves are trained up then the materiel can really start flowing.

For 30 years the world feared the Russia military only to find out, they are completely fucking inept. Sole thing they have in terms of real military might basically is nukes. But at this point, it is very unlikely they could land one since they are still using mostly cold war tech.
NATO does not really care about the nukes. Russia can try to launch them, but we have interceptors, ground missile defense in Europe and those weird UFOs that people keep seeing on our shores that have really odd movement are likely our new interceptor drones, a key part of a drone army that is noticeably missing right now. Putin not likely revamped the nukes since the 1970s. NATO has even the slightest reason to believe they are launching a nuke we enter the war very, very swiftly.
Only thing stopping NATO really from taking action is China threatened they could enter in response. Unlike Russia, China has an army that is willing to go that matches the US army in size. Also they openly favor asymmetric warfare, so knowing they will be against the world, China is very likely to use a strike first strategy if forced to enter a war like that. And that is what people fear ultimately. Rather than Russia nuking Ukraine, the real threat is China nuking whatever they hit with their supersonic missiles. No one knows if the US got tech to take them down or not. Best hope would be those interceptor drones.

If the Russian Army is so inept, why isn't this war over? I'm just saying, there's a reason it's been allowed to go on this long and I don't believe it has anything to do with China or nukes anymore. I might not be a soldier, but I lived as a military wife for a decade and something isn't adding up.

I might not be a soldier, but I lived as a military wife for a decade and something isn't adding up. It's still a big army and they have lots and lots of artillery, which they use indiscriminately. Ukraine is still outgunned and it's hard to dislodge a dug-in force. Ukraine is doing a great job using the NATO precision missiles to take out ammo depots, command posts, bridges, rail, and barracks, which slows down the Russians (Russian artillery attacks are way down due to said exploding ammo depots), but they don't have enough infantry yet to retake territory.

Yup, what is left is there are still a lot of Russians being funnelled into the Ukraine that still need to be displaced by force. Also Russia is deploying neo-nazis mercenaries, training middle eastern mercenaries and using convicts. So they are giving people weapons, training them use them and sending them off to die. Ukraine is not even really fighting the Russian army anymore.

Putin addressed the Russian nation for the 1st time since the conflict began earlier today, holding mock referendums in annexed areas of Ukraine on if those areas should join Russia, and oh a sprinkling of 'Nuclear Arms' being used.
He's also ordered partial mobilisation of his troops, so...yeah.
Also reading in the past few days that Ukraine have unearthed mass-graves in reclaimed areas of their country, truly sickening.

Yuppers. Putin mobilized 300k recruits as the Ukraine is pushing Russia back. Putin also mobilized his nukes. The red line is if Ukraine crosses into Russian territory it appears. The real question now is does the Donbas region count?
Putin's plan is to have these areas vote for annexation then claim they are now property of Russia. And they will not be mock elections, people in these regions historically consider themselves more Russian than Ukraine and would prefer to be ruled by Putin than Kiev. This is where my great uncle was from, he was a loyal soviet to his final day, despite living in New Jersey and working at a factory there.

Also this is where things get interesting, when the annexation votes occur, and the Donbas region joins Russia, Putin will sue for peace, and the Ukraine will be the aggressors. Curious where the world falls. I really think they will say once again fuck the Ukraine, and push them to sue for peace, letting Russia take more of their land.

We are neutral until a nuke is used. That much is clear now. We can give them our old shit, pay to give them new shit, while stimulating our war economy but no troops or direct military support until that nuke is used.
Only exception may be UN action, but Russia has a veto.
