Curry's like a man possessed. He can't be stopped. If there's such a thing, I'd have him as MVP of the tournament. They gave it to LeBron

Ting of Taiwan matches Khelif and wins gold for their weightclass by defeating(and bloodying) up a Polish boxer. x.com/fairplaywomen/status/1822357701868896383You can attack IOC for allowing 2 women with distinct advantages but I don't think you can hold it against either boxer here. Both get gold and the concourse is going to rev up. Saw Imaine Khelif is planning to sue for defamation for people criticizing her on social media.

She's a megastar. I need Indi Hartwell to hit the Kangaroo homage next time she's on TV. I forgot about the TREX or Michael Jackson Thriller walk she used. My bad.

The one thing that we haven’t spent a lot of time talking about in this thread is the timing of the results coming out from the Russian led group came right after Khelif had beaten a Russian and Ting had won a tournament. There’s at least some conspiratorial voices in the space that think there were no test results to disqualify the boxers. Also this photo reminded me, that clip of a medal stand where the one young gymnast sees the other two more experienced girls hitting their medal and then copies them is some of the most adorable stuff out there.

I love watching the Breaking events.
Our B-Boy, Phil Wizard, took the inaugural gold.
Perfect timing for this event to come out. It'll be so much bigger when it hits LA in '28.

This whole Jordan Chiles/Ana Barbosu Gymnastics controversy is wild Barbosu(Romania) had 3rd place and thought she had Bronze locked up as she barely beat another Romanian gymnast and Jordan Chile(USA) by like a fraction of a point....but USA coaches/Chiles protested and got it reversed where she went from 5th place to 3rd place, clinching the bronze medal for Chiles in a role reversal which led to this heartbreak moment: x.com/NBCOlympics/status/18224451689868208094-5 days later, Romania protested the USA's protest at the game indicating that they missed the 1 minute timespan by 4 seconds and thus their protest did not get in a timely matter which means Barbosu would have stayed in 3rd. This led to Chiles posting some heartbreak emojis and there's talks that she has to give back her bronze medal and it takes the US down (a smidge) on the medal rankings(We have the most so it's not that big of a deal honestly) and the bronze would go to Romania and Barbosu. That just seems shitty and a killjoy for both. Heartbreaking to give you the taste of glory for Barbosu and then strip it away in an instant and now when the Olympics are just about to be over, the officials might take Chiles Bronze away after she was celebrating with it, had the podium celebration and everything. I think it's lame as hell that Chiles sister is playing the race card as it's not Barbosu's fault that "Three Black women have to get their moment taken away from them" but it feels shitty to want to get the Bronze back if you're Barbosu. Doesn't feel anywhere near the same as actually winning it. I hate the entire system of wanting a re-score altogether, judges should announce their score and that's final. Or don't announce the actual score if you want a coach to challenge a ruling or something, only announce the official score after everything's been checked. That's like getting a touchdown, kicking the extra point and then deciding nope no good in football.

Talks that Breakdancing might just be a 1 time sport, not sure it makes the cut(supposedly) but this was a cult hit and besides the Raygun stuff, you had some good stuff that came out of this. Like what you mentioned, Canada vs Japan was a clinic for the men's gold matchup. I can't believe Japan lost to Mr. Wizard.

Also this photo reminded me, that clip of a medal stand where the one young gymnast sees the other two more experienced girls hitting their medal and then copies them is some of the most adorable stuff out there. Seeing a lot of people convinced there was no Russian tests. For eligibility I seen it estimated by sports psych people that up to half the girls with long standing records are DSD. And until recently, most would never know it, they would just think they were infertile as most are. Super hard to regulate as you would have to start to test for a few dozen rare conditions. Then the advantages they may get, also come from medical conditions like being polycystic. Starts to get into the larger debate of should people be banned for having physical conditions that give an advantage. Like should a genetic freak like Lesner be allowed to compete when it is clear he is had abnormal genetics? My mentor believes the day parents can gene edit their children, the olympics as we know them ends. And this should only be a generation away or two.

US Women's Basketball team getting put on by the French, hitting a poor 25% from 3. "We don't need Caitlin Clark, she's just a rookie".
Ionescu who is one of their top 3 point shooters can't even get a chance to play either until they go down by 7. Once Plum leaves and Sabrina comes on, there's a different energy on the floor.
EDIT: DAT STEWIE RECOVERY BLOCK.
Kahleah Copper's energy in the 4th carried US, unsung hero with how quick was going.

That's heartbreaking, she misplayed that and shot it with a foot on the line. Would have sent that to OT.
That's going to haunt Williams forever.

I was so close to going on a “WE SHOULD HAVE HAD CAITLIN” rant because this team almost blew so much of my money live betting. Altogether I bet $500 to win a measly $140 on live bets and A’Ja did everything in her power to kill me.
That was my sign to take the rest of today and tomorrow off from betting. No reason for that to have been so damn close.
Can’t wait for the Clark/Angel Olympics.

I gotta say, Canada had a very successful Olympics.
We were projected to win 6 golds, and 20 medals this year. And we ended up with 9 golds, and 27 overall. The most ever for a Canadian team, in a non-boycotted games.
With the games coming back to North America in 2028, I can see us getting even better.

That’s unfortunate, since they made a scoring error, they have the right winner, but a technicality is making them give the medal to the wrong person.
Wrapped up my peacock viewing with some weightlifting, the volleyball gold medal match, and rhythmic gymnastics (never watched before but was impressive. Oh and I didn’t watch any breakdancing except to go find the first round for Ray Gun.
Watching a bit of these closing ceremonies to revel in how absurdly stupid these things are.

One more thing I forgot to mention about LA '28.
In addition to Flag Football being added, they're bringing Baseball and Softball back to the Olympic program. And there's talk that major leaguers may be allowed to play in this one.

Flag football is goofy and has shades of 3x3 basketball in terms of being a recreation version of a real sport, but I guess it's fine as the novelty "put it in so the hosts can win a medal at it" inclusion.
Baseball, softball and cricket are all global enough and should be permanent.

Maybe college kids or guys not signed because I can't see how any team would want someone midseason to leave their team and risk injury when they are being paid millions of dollars. It's pulling teeth to get teams to agree to let players represent in the World Baseball Classic(See Edwin Diaz injury) and that's done in the lead up to the regular season.

Granted of course no NFL player is in this and I think it's Division II NCAAF players but still. This is without any sumos(Which I am surprised isn't an Olympic sport but it would be sheer domination by one side probably ), these dudes can fly.

I saw no Lacrosse as a sport in the 2024 olympics and was shocked. That was a sport I always thought had a mini following. It's not big here by any means but I always thought it had a spot locked during these summer olympics.
EDIT: WOW more than a century since Lacrosse was the Olympics. WTF. :laughy:
