Meant to be 42c (107.6 f) today, thankfully I have a very short walk to work but can seeing it being incredibly busy. Definitely not going anywhere beforehand.

It's odd. Warning for heat waves and it's been overcast and raining every now and then since the alert.
The humidity is high, as you'd expect.

FNQ is obviously underwater at the moment. This could easily be a political thread. The new QLD Premier is on TV right now talking about renewables. This will likely be eaten up by Sky After Dark, as the easiest way to win over country folk is flying into the storm, quite figuratively. The easiest way to lose their support, is to play on - politics as usual. " Take dingy. Go to Mum's. Kill Bazza—"Sorry"—grab Shazza, go to the Euramo, have a nice cold XXXX, and wait for all of this to blow over. "

We had a massive storm here (yeah, so much for the " hottest, driest summer on record " it's been cold and wet) and it's astonishing how quickly the local community Facebook pages turned into conspiracy theory cooker propaganda, and how many people believe the recent rain events in Australia are a result of seeding, weather control and chem trails.
What has happened to people? It's like the pandemic turned half the world into idiots.

The snow and cold have reached us. -23C today as a high. -37C overnight. Friday night it's supposed to reach -41C overnight. Though really anything past -30C is just stupid cold.

Surely taking a single step outside would cause you to freeze to death in those kind of temperatures? It's incomprehensible!

We got a foot of snow yesterday and are being forecast another 15 inches on Friday. I don’t live in Winnipeg so I don’t know what to do with all this snow and neither do the snow plows.

Truth be told, we actually don't get that much snow. The problem is that any snow we get in between November and March stays on the ground because it's always so damn cold, until it finally melts in April. The accumulation of 5 months of snow makes it seem like we get more than we actually do. But yeah...snowed a bunch the past few days. Hooray.

We got about 10cm in 2 days which is the normal snowpack we hope to get in November, so it's late this year by a bunch and less snow than we usually have by now. I'm not complaining. but it will have ramifications in the Spring/Summer.
As my dad would say it's 'colder than a witch's tit' out today. It's -37 right now and they say tonight it's supposed to go down to -47. I'm supposed to have tickets for some string quartet thing but I am thinking it might get cancelled which is fine since my car is pretty much a solid block right now.

This weekend is going to hit -7 F (-22 C). Boo. -13F here. I’m not doing any metric conversions! -25C Surely taking a single step outside would cause you to freeze to death in those kind of temperatures? It's incomprehensible! You're not far off. It's brutally cold. You feel it in your bones within seconds of stepping outside unless you are properly dressed. When it gets this bad I drive with winter gear on (or multiple layers with insulated underwear/undershirts) when I am outside of the city because if the unthinkable happens and I crash, if I am knocked unconscious and my vehicle shuts off, I will freeze to death before any help will arrive. I used to travel to remote camps in northern Saskatchewan by plane and they required that all passengers dress in winter gear in case of an emergency landing for the same reason. They wouldn't let you on the plane unless you were wearing a winter coat, hat, gloves and boots at a minimum. My work vehicle doesn't have a block heater because my old boss was a fucking moron (I'm getting one installed next week, just in time for the cold snap to be over), so I have to remember to start my truck every couple hours while on site so it doesn't freeze. Last thing I want is to be stuck here when work is over. I remote start it so it runs before I go to bed and in the morning I just cross my fingers and hope it starts. So far so good. I'd rather be stuck at home than at work. My kids stayed home yesterday and today. Mrs RT got their homework on Wednesday and said fuck this. We weren't the only ones either. A lot of students stayed home yesterday and today from school. Once it dips below -20C they cancel any outdoor activities, which is awesome in the winter, having 30 young kids with coughs trapped inside for 8 hours. Today some schools closed and some bus lines were canceled. A lot of districts just said fuck it, stay home.

Living through our blizzard warning till tomorrow. Chiefs tickets are ridiculously cheap for tomorrows game (maybe 75% cheaper than they’d be for a regular season game), but the drive is keeping me from going through with it. Bummer.
