You're looking in the wrong place if you want to get scared from slashers. Slasher movies are at best mildly unsettling. For what it's worth, I think Freddy Krueger is the scariest slasher villain. That said, the opening scene of Scream is my first and scariest horror movie experience. Bear in mind I was nine years old at the time. But I've never watched Scream in full. Not because of any trauma, but I did watch the second one and was thoroughly unimpressed. I should return to the first one though. That first scene is pretty badass, it'd be interesting to see how the rest of the movie follows that. Freddy is the least scary of them all. The guy is a joke machine and that supernatural shit will never scare me.

LT didn’t find Blair Witch scary so his opinion is invalid. That movie is scary as fuck.
But I agree that Scream was dumb and overrated. I never liked it. Never saw any of the sequels.

Legit on the first point. The motion sickness had me already feeling queasy by that point, but that ending with the chick in the corner... Woof. And the teeth thing.

That wasn't established till after the first movie. Michael Myers>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Ghostface in every conceivable way. It was still established really early on in the franchise. Ghostface has always been able to be anyone , anywhere at anytime. And obviously Myers finishes ahead of GF in the overall hierarchy of horror villains - he's one of the most iconic of all time. Not nearly as believable as the series goes on though and never really that scary - which was the original point.

LT is right that Blair Witch wasn't scary - the marketing around it created most of the fear for people. And your Scream opinion is just plain wrong.

The Avengers is an amazing franchise , but I steered clear of all the MCU movies - had I included them though Avengers would have been very high on my list as it is the greatest franchise within the universe.
To me the franchise has the two single best movies in the MCU (1&3) and I love them both. For the longest time the original was my favorite but Infinity War might supplant it as I've never had more fun and more intense movie going experience - so much so I had to go back the next day and do it all again. Just an incredible movie.
The weak link is obviously AoU but I ride for that movie as well - I really fucking enjoy it and never got the hate. I love Spader which helps but the overall movie is still fun.

I stayed away from the MCU as well. At this point it's pretty much it's own category. No doubt that Avengers has been amazing though.

I had Avengers at number 10 with only the Captain America franchise ahead of it for MCU franchises. Just seeing all those heroes on the big screen was all the first one needed to sell me on the movie. Age Of Ultron had a hard time living up to the first one and they exceeded my expectations with what they had to work with for Infinity War. I just found the Cap franchise to be somewhat overlooked and each movie got progressively better.

See I wasn't a fan of the first Captain America so I'm not sure it ever had a shot - it took me too long to see the awesomeness of WS and then CW crushed it. That first one though firmly puts it behind Avengers.

Had I voted for an MCU franchise, Captain America probably would have been the only one.
Thor would be close because Ragnarok is fucking amazing, but probably missed the top 10.
GotG would be top 3 but it’s not a franchise yet.
Not sure where I would have placed MCU if we counted it as one.

The first Avengers film holds a special place in my heart. When it came out some of my friends went to see it and I tagged along. At that point I had never seen a single Marvel film. I wouldn't say I was blown away, but I was thoroughly entertained by a band of superheroes joining together, bantering with each other, and ultimately saving the world. After that I became hooked on the MCU and within the next couple of weeks I had watched all the MCU films that preceded Avengers: Assemble. It still holds up as one of the best movies in the MCU.
Age of Ultron was a massive disappointment.
Infinity War, on the other hand, holds an even more special place in my heart. Not only is it easily the best MCU movie, and the best comic book/superhero movie I've seen by a massive distance, it's one of my favourite films of all time. Only one other film has had close to the emotional impact that Infinity War had upon me. It's a tremendous story, bringing all these great characters together in a bunch of fantastic subplots. Thanos' credibility as the villain is the the glue that holds it all together, and the fact that he unquestionably wins at the end is a terrible but somehow awesome icing on the cake.

I didn't know whether or not to include The Hobbit movies , I was assuming no since most entries only said LOTR and I know it's not a must they are included. I don't watch the franchise and probably never will so that can be a nerd thing to figure out.
My daughter is getting super into nerdy things though , and this was one of the things my wife kind of got her into. She liked it but didn't love it like some other series we showed her. It's just not my type of movie , I've never been into mythical/fantasy type things. Having said all that though it obviously belongs on any list - the numbers for the franchise is insane and even calling them critical lows seemed silly - all these movies seemed beloved by audiences and critics alike. And obviously it made a ton of money and even won awards.

I wish these movies weren't so fucking long. Then maybe I could've gotten into them.
I would've counted the Hobbit with these since they're all the same self-contained universe.
Hobbit is also the only Tolkein book I've ever read.

As I said - I'm really clueless and without opinion either way on the subject.

I'm clueless when it comes to the films too since I only ever sat through the first two (the second took A LOT of convincing) and then swore never again, no more. I get that the books are thicc like Ric, but C'MON! That all said, I know that there's as many people out there that get super hard erections over this franchise the way Wife does over Harry Potter, so I'm not surprised to see it in the Top 10 (with or without Hobbit).

Somehow, the first two movies became a theatre-going Christmas tradition for my family before my parents divorced. So I was stuck bored out of my mind in a dark theatre, with nothing to do, surrounded by people who were rabidly gobbling this shit up. Thank God my parents divorced before the third movie hit theatres.

I forgot all about Lord of the Rings, it would have easily made my list if I had remembered it.
Hobbit was a bit disappointing. It really should have been only one movie, two at the most. Making it a trilogy completely over=bloated the story.

Making it a trilogy completely over=bloated the story. Not only that but they cut stuff from the story and added characters and story that weren't even in the book. If I remember correctly, Peter Jackson didn't want to do more than two movies and he was forced into it.

Fuck this franchise - I don't know that I have ever been more disappointed by hype than with the Indy movies. With a gun to my head and having to choose 1 - it would be Last Crusade but even then I don't think I'll ever watch that again either. I know I'm in the minority with this so I'm not shocked to see it place this high but I have grievances that I've already aired.

I just watched the Indy's for the first time last year, and it's definitely a series of diminishing returns for me. I loved the first, but was only so-so and less so for each film after, until part 4 was just...not good. As a franchise, meh, Indy's great, movies are hit and miss.
Though it takes patience, and the finale of Return of the kind stretches on far too long, I'm a fan of the LotR franchise, including the Hobbit movies, just less so.
Avengers is a great franchise, Age of Ultron was only decent, but the first was one of the greatest comic book movies of all time, and then Infinity War may have topped it, but was definitely the most epic. Infinity War especially shouldn't have worked with so many moving parts, but it just did.

Love the Indy franchise, I had it at #3 on my list. 1 and 3 are absolute classics, and I'll fight for 2 as well as I think it's a very underrated film, just with a darker tone and atmosphere than 1 and 3 had. The only outright stinker in the franchise is #4. Fuck that movie. Fuck Shia LeBeouf, fuck the bad CGI, fuck the ridiculous opening scene with the A-bomb and fuck the absolutely ludicrous ending. My wife still wants her money back after watching this.

I also had Indy at number 3. Like Back To The Future it had 3 consistently good installments. I just pretend the fourth doesn't exist outside of factoring in it for this countdown which kept Indy from being number 1.
