Sorry @ironmaider - it fell somewhere in between.
I never got into the Bond franchise , I remember being completely bored by them and a youngster and the adults would put them on and lately I tried the updated Daniel Craig versions and still just felt no connection what so ever. It obviously isn't my cup of tea. Needless to say it didn't make my list but that doesn't mean it don't belong here. Such a long running franchise with what I understand to be a lot of ups and downs but ultimately incredibly successful. It definitely belongs in the top ten.
We are on a streak and going to continue to be with franchises I just don't enjoy.

Lol one off.
My only exposure (other than Gokdeneye on 64) was the Craig ones. Loved Casino and Skyfall. The other two were meh to boring. Which is a shame as I like Waltz a lot from his Tarantino roles so add that to Batista curiosity and I was hyped for the last one...

As a kid growing up, I was into 007 more out of convenience than anything else. The old Bond movies were all right there for free rental from the nearby public library. They were action-y enough that they were entertaining to a kid. I had no idea what was going on plot- or dialogue-wise, so I don't think I knew enough about what was actually going on to be bored. The older movies definitely had the more iconic villains and set pieces. I remember being terrified of Jaws (and then subsequently floored that that was him in Happy Gilmore). My favorite old Bond movie though is one where I can only remember one scene (the bobsled chase). And it's the Bond that UT cold-shoulder'd off his list... George Lazenby in On Her Majesty's Secret Service. Then they relaunched 007 with Brosnan, my all-time favorite Bond... COME AT ME, BRO! in my all-time favorite Bond movie with GoldenEye... COME AT ME, BRO! And it had the added convenience of being a November release around Thanksgiving and my birthday. So going to the theatre to see Brosbond every year as like a birthday tradition became a thing. Unfortunately, the Brosnan movies kept getting worse and worse. And then he stopped being Bond. And I felt completely out of love with the whole franchise. I understand that Daniel Craig is supposedly awesome in the role, and that the new movies are fucking dope shows... But I've never really been able to go back to Bond. Maybe one day. It also helps the franchise's standing though that it's responsible for THE GREATEST VIDEO GAME OF ALL-TIME: GoldenEye. COME AT ME, BRO!!!

Bond just barely missed my list. The longevity of the franchise is amazing, but that comes with the double edge sword of having more mediocre to bad films in it. And Bond definitely has had it's ups and downs, both in casting and overall film quality.

What's insane is the last Avengers movie made as much money as a franchise going back to the 60s...
Okay that's just the gross but it sounded impressive before you get technical.

And don't forget to adjust for inflation! Since this seems like the best time to do this, I'll stir up some potential controversy by list my favorite Bonds in order: 1. Pierce Brosnan 2. Timothy Dalton 3. George Lazenby (based almost solely on that bobsled chase scene) 4. Roger Moore 5. Daniel Craig (didn't overtly seem to exude that gentleman playboy vibe... but from what little I saw of Casino Royale, he did seem pretty bad ass) 6. Sean Connery

I'm English and I've only seen one Bond film in full: Skyfall. I enjoyed it but it isn't anything I'd particularly want to revisit. However I do plan on watching some of the older Bond films some day. As far as I know they have that quaint British charm to them, as opposed to the modern ones which are more or less generic action/spy films. From what I gather the Kingsman series was made in part as a tribute to the cheesy British Bond films of old, and I really like the first Kingsman film.

Wars have been fought between the Connery Club and the Moore Masses, with no clear resolution. What is clear is that no other Bond actor will ever compare to Connery or Moore. Anybody can tell you that.

There's a whatever-the-British-equivalent-of-a-million-miles-is gap between Brosnan and the next guy.

I have to say as someone of no knowledge of the films , Connery would be the first person I thought of when Bond comes up. Just from my pop culture references. Pierce Brosnan is a bitch who got clowned by Robin Williams in a drive by fruiting. I've never liked him.
Enjoying the back and forth in the Bond discussion though.

Due to revitalizing the series Brosnan deserves his high praise I believe. But I am also an outsider too, so what do I know?

That's one of my favorite parts of the movie mostly because it makes no sense given the story. I have to assume it's one of those improv lines from RW and they decided to keep it in the movie like Jim Carrey's big gulps.
Knowing nothing about the non-Craig Bonds my go-to BEST EVER was always Roger Moore for some reason.

The greatest thing Connery's done outside of The Rock is get parodied on SNL Jeopardy. Besides being the best Bond, Brosnan also played an excellent heel in Doubtfire and was dope alongside Greg Kinnear in Matador. Then there's the Thomas Crowne Affair remake. And Bond arguments aside, Remingston Steele just might be the greatest character name in history. Brosnan all day, every day. Then. Now. Always.

From the last few posts I see that PI is answering the question "Who is the best actor who happened to play James Bond?", instead of "Who is the actor that best portrayed the character James Bond?", which I was referring to in my earlier post. That lends some credibility to 🤯's Pierce Brosnan >>>>> everyone else list, which is an utterly absurd response to to the second question. Regardless, the correct answer to both is Sean Connery.

When it comes to James Bond, Sean Connery and Roger Moore are always the first 2 I think of. Sean Connery is iconic but Roger Moore is the Bond I grew up watching. It's pretty tough for me between those two.

007 was my #1. Reason being, if there's a new James Bond film coming out, I'm going to see it and I'm going to take note of who the latest Bond girl is, the title track and the villains. What I love about Bond is that they're rarely run of the mill action flicks. They're pure escapism with some of the most gorgeous settings ever put to film, strong casts and wonderful action set-pieces. Also it's a franchise that constantly re-invents itself. It has that Dr. Who appeal to it where every new Bond brings their own distinct style to the franchise and while I enjoy Moore and Brosnan's cheesier takes on the character, Connery carried the character with so much strength, it's hard to look past him. And that score is phenomenal, the Bond theme would be right up there as far as my favourite themes go.
The clincher though was the video game spin-offs which I was a huge fan of. I was 7 year-old when GoldenEye was the Fortnite of my generation and very few games have impressed me more. Not only was it an amazing couch multiplayer game, but the single player was ridiculously replayable. I thought all the EA games were enjoyable enough and there was a Game Boy Legend of Zelda style game that rarely gets mentioned, but I loved it back in the day.
Some people want to be Batman or a Ninja Turtle, Bond was always the guy I wanted to be.

I like Bond, not a fanatic. Honestly, I probably prefer the Craig branch overall. A bit hit and miss on the others, much like Indy, Bond is a great character, but the movies themselves I can give or take.
