I feel dense.  But then again I wore a Yankees cap on a flight to Boston and got lit up a few times for it.  I see a Yankees logo as generic Americana.  I forgot I was traveling to a part of the country where it meant I was taking a polarizing side.

This is a reasonable analogy. You may not think you should have to take the yankees cap off, but you should be aware of the reaction it will cause, and if you don't act preventatively you're being a bit of a dick. Why not just choose the more polite option?

IMO, it really depends on where you wear the Che Guevara shirt. If you are going to a politcal protest in Chile, then I'd say it's on par otherwise not comparable.

I'll agree that there's far less of a historical precedent but I do believe that thanks to Trump and the way he went about getting elected, we now live in far more heated times, there's far less of a middle ground then there once was, the term cuck is now as standard an insult as idiot or shithead etc.
