I rushed to judgement and was horribly mistaken. I talk politics quite a bit on social media (shocker) and not only issued mea culpas on all of the platforms, but have taken to defending the kid every chance I get.
Bad situation.

Alyssa Milano apparently tweeted that the MAGA hat is the new white hood. Is that where we are at now?
I accept we have a living language and word usages change and anyone who saw Davinci Code knows symbols evolve and change over time. Has a MAGA hat gone from an ugly dad hat with a campaign slogan to the symbol of hate and racism? Can it still be seen as innocent?

No there’s no intent to antagonize when wearing the hat.
The left can’t handle the hat because they are soft and insecure.

But then again I wore a Yankees cap on a flight to Boston and got lit up a few times for it. I see a Yankees logo as generic Americana. I forgot I was traveling to a part of the country where it meant I was taking a polarizing side.

You may not think you should have to take the yankees cap off, but you should be aware of the reaction it will cause, and if you don't act preventatively you're being a bit of a dick. Why not just choose the more polite option?

Wearing a hat for a sports team is nothing more than a rivalry. The New York Yankees don’t make policy that affects millions of people, most of which are minorities, LGTBQ, low income, uninsured, etc.

The point of an analogy is to make it relatable in a discussion, sure it's not perfect.

I'm getting a little sick of the hard left trying to decide for all us what is and isn't acceptable.

I did some editing of posts to allow this thread to continue. I'm all for a good heated debate, but keep it below the belt kids. Anymore flaming, baiting or if this goes completely off the rails and Dancy Von Lockface will be making a rare appearance.

I have no real interest in the "this is the true story about what happened!!" part of this story - but the idea that a guy in a MAGA hat in the face of a Native American could possibly have been trying to diffuse the situation is pretty hilarious. And no one has made the claim whatsoever. It was PHILLIPS (the native American guy) that claimed to be diffusing the situation. Tell me how walking up and getting in the face of a teenage boy wearing a MAGA hat, then chanting and drumming in his face is somehow diffusing the situation. The hilarious thing is people continuing to try and pin this on the Covington students when the footage clearly shows they were not the provocateurs here. I literally posted a section of the statement by the kid that said that he was trying to diffuse the situation a couple of posts above you. His family hired a PR firm (who "incidentally" have worked with numerous Republican politicians) to spin the whole thing to make him seem like the innocent party and how wronged this poor little schoolboy has been treated by the big bad mean media. The idea that the MAGA hat is "just a hat" is nonsense - and the smirk on his face is the look of a smug punk who knows he's being a douchebag.

What is the difference between wearing a MAGA hat and wearing a Che Guevara T-shirt??? The family doesn't have to spin a damn thing. The footage CLEARLY shows the media was full of shit. The family hired a PR firm to try and salvage the kid's name and reputation after the media pissed all over it. And once again since when does wearing a MAGA hat and "smirking" justify a high school kid being bullied and harassed by grown ass men? Especially when THEY were the ones that instigated the entire situation.

I genuinely don't understand what you are trying to argue here. The fact that they are in high school doesn't means they is magically off limits for their behaviour. If you think they are entirely innocent then there's really no point continuing the discussion.

There is NOTHING inherently inflammatory about it. It just makes a political statement JUST LIKE A CHE GUEVARA t-shirt.
Hell I'll do you one better. If it had been a kid wearing a "Hope and Change" hat you would be crying bloody murder right now. Anyone with an ounce of common sense and rational thought can see in that video that the Covington students were BY FAR the most innocent party in this mess. They were attending a PRO-LIFE RALLY (so the MAGA hats should have a been surprise to absolutely NO ONE) and were first verbally assaulted by a group of racist and homophobic Black Hebrew Israelites (which the media represents as a "group of young black men praying") and then had the kid has Nathan Phillips and his band WALKING UP TO HIM, GETTING IN HIS FACE, and then drumming and chanting. I thought the kid showed INCREDIBLE restraint. If that were me in high school I would have beaten the breaks off Phillips. I find it honestly laughable you're holding a high school kid to a higher standard of behavior than grown ass men. Trump Derangement Syndrome is apparently a real thing.

Another person bringing up their distaste on how I treat women. Lmao. Cut the nonsense out. While most were getting their hearts broken by chicks growing up, I was not because of the way I handled those situations. Like I said before, you’re either the wolf or the sheep. You saying that you disagree with the way I treat women like it makes you a more respected person for vocalizing that is nauseating. Get over it and stay on the topic at hand. When you openly and reasonably often brag about something on a public forum, it doesn't just disappear. I merely brought it up to show that even though I don't like you, you can still speak your mind and that there's no censorship going on here. Seems I hit a nerve regarding infidelity. As for the thread itself, in todays climate it's no stretch to consider MAGA hats inflammatory given Trumps history, at least we can all agree that blackface is idiocy.

I just can't agree with that (the MAGA hats, not the blackface) Blackface has over 2 centuries of negative and inflammatory history behind it. There is no such historical precedent behind the MAGA hat. If you cannot accept someone's political differences with civility, then you shouldn't say anything at all. Not walk up to them shouting obscenities or getting in their face in an obnoxious manner. Especially when your target isn't even an adult.

IMO, it really depends on where you wear the Che Guevara shirt. If you are going to a politcal protest in Chile, then I'd say it's on par otherwise not comparable.
As I understand it, there was a March for Life and Indigenous People's March the same day at the Lincoln Memorial. Am I correct? If so, talk about a powder keg. After reading articles and watching videos, I still think the one kid looks like an entitled little shit and I don't think he and his peers are as innocent as some of you are claiming. I owned a teenager and at one point I was a smug little asshole myself. That being said, I also think there is lots of blame to go around that none of us will ever truly know the whole story because we weren't there and it's gone beyond sensationalizing now. My mom always says 'there's A's side and B's side and the truth is usually somewhere in the middle'.

I am certainly not suggesting that anyone is committing some sort of crime by wearing one - just that anyone who does clearly has impaired judgement and/or is not much resembling a decent person.

Wearing a MAGA hat says that you represent your POTUS and your country. Most MAGA hat wearers believe in “America First.” Not everyone is racist. It’s this imaginary belief the left has because they were softened up by Obama and the left and can’t handle the shock value of realness. The fact is the left live in this bubble and don’t know what the real world is. That’s a fact. Another person bringing up their distaste on how I treat women. Lmao. Cut the nonsense out. Like most men, I cheated when I was younger but have never cheated since being married and especially having a kid. I enjoyed life growing up. HOWEVER, I still say it how it is. Women are awesome. Edited by IM Just kidding, women are awesome. I don’t have a problem with women in general. Just pussy hat wearing women. Women who fuck millionaires for money and fame and come out 10+ years later saying it was forced. I respect women and respect the lifestyle of a slut.
