Is Hollywood writing this third period? San Jose and Vegas are in a scoring brawl.

Game of the playoffs so far, this is nuts. It feels strange to say (after all those Wings/Sharks battles) but I hope San Jose pulls it out.

Wow. What a major choke-job by Vegas.
Up 3-1 in the series, lost it.
Up 3-0 in the 3rd of Game 7, lost it.
And now they're going home.

In truth all that remains in the West is a bunch of yuck as a long time Wings fan. The reason I hate Vegas is Bettman's fingerprints over the whole thing plus Marc Andre Fleury. The hockey gods have been too kind to Fleury ever since that goof in the World Juniors years ago. Blues/Stars Sharks/Avs All I ask is that they kill each other.

Vegas players must be pissed as hell. That was not a 5 minute penalty. Refs have been total trash in these playoffs.

Yeah as much as I wanted the sharks to win, that penalty was bullshit.
But at the same time, Fleury could have made a save somewhere in that 5 minutes. He was lights out all game until that happened.
Refs gave a weak equalizer call and Vegas forced OT. All in all they had their chances to close the game out and couldn’t do it. 4 goals in 5 mins is insane whether the penalty was just or not.

Last time I checked cross checking is from behind with two hands on the stick. This was more interference than anything else. Either way, that is not how you are taught to check your opponent.
Look Vegas was up 3-1 in games and had a 3-0 lead. They tied it up late. It was 0-0 in overtime. They can cry all they want, but they are adults. They are professional athletes. Allowing 4 Power play goals is inexcusable. They also let Goodrow go to the net without any defense. And, Fleury attempted to make a save as if he was in a beer league by forgetting that he can push off with his feet from side to side so he is not vulnerable on a deke.

Nah, cross checking isn't exclusive to the back, there have been many a call where a player ate lumber off a cross check and it was called. Either way the refs are off the hook, the speed the game is played at you have to call what you see in the moment. Pavelski seemed lifeless on the ice after the fact so the refs were well within their means to call a 5 minute major. Plus they gave Vegas a gift in the dying minutes which they capitalized on.
Looking things over I'll have to hitch my wagon to the Islanders. I was a fan in the dying days of their 80's dynasty and was ecstatic when they eliminated the Pens both this year and in 1993.

If cross checking is only from behind then what was Kadri suspended for?

Fine cross checking is front and back so then that penalty wasn't bullshit.
Kadri could have gotten interference, high sticking, attempt to injure, and cross checking.

Hoping for the classic Patrick Division rivalry of Isles/Caps in the next round. One of the first times I remember staying up past midnight was watching their Easter Sunday game 7 marathon in 1987, incredible stuff. {Spoiler}

Well so much for that.
BTW, are all of the Isles' remaining playoff games taking place at Barclays, or at Nassau?

Literally the only not weird thing that happened in the first round was the Leafs losing.
I hate my life.

From ESPN;
Two referees who worked the controversial Game 7 between the Vegas Golden Knights and San Jose Sharks in the first round will not officiate in the second round.
Dan O'Halloran and Eric Furlatt were on the ice for a pivotal major penalty call in the third period that gave the Sharks a five minute power play. The Sharks scored four times on the man-advantage to erase a 3-0 deficit, and won the game in overtime, 5-4. The Sharks will face the Colorado Avalanche in the second round.
The NHL chooses which referees advance in the playoffs, with the pool dwindling down after each series. It's especially notable that O'Halloran is not working, considering he leads all active refs in career playoff games officiated, and has not missed a Conference Final round in a decade. Game 7 was O'Halloran's 212th career playoff game.
According to MoneyPuck.com, the Sharks had a 1.19 percent chance to win the game when they were given the five-minute major.
Fair punishment.

The NHL also reached out to Vegas and apologized. This is after the series supervised explained the referees action. Look, an illegal hit causing serious physical injury merits a major.
If you blow a 3-1 series lead, allow 4 powerplay goals, let the opposition crash the net with ease in a game 7 overtime you don't deserve to move on.

You blame the refs for making the call. And you blame the Knights for having a beyond shitty penalty kill.

I just don't see how it is a bad call. The best way I can look at it is if it was the Rangers. I would be furious with the player who put the Rangers in that position. I don't see anyone from Vegas blaming themselves.
All the officials gathering to see what each official saw and then make a call or not is nothing new. Having calls you don't agree with, which are not always bad calls happen to every team.
I give a lot of credit to Crosby and Mike Sullivan who took responsibility in their series.

Boston has been up 1-0 all game since an early shorthanded goal, and Columbus just scored two goals in 13 seconds to go ahead.

I had a feeling the Islanders/Canes would be a low scoring series. Haven’t been paying much attention but I’m interested in the match up.
I’m cheering for the Sharks but I think Colorado’s line of doom is just going to eat Jones alive. He’s so bad. I feel for San Jose, they finally have a legit shot after all these years of coming so close and their huge signing can’t skate anymore and Jones is a siv

Such a change of atmosphere in dumpy Brooklyn. If they Islanders are eliminated this will definitely be brought up.
Excellent goaltending last night, and some really good defensive plays by both sides. Sign me up for a game 7.
I have a feeling the Islanders will explode with a handful of goals. The Hurricanes defense are way too aggressive on the rush.

Forgot to post my predictions because I was too bitter.
This is what I would have gone with...
Boston in 6 Islanders in 6 Sharks in 7 Blues in 7

The Islanders are about done for. Down 3-0 now and don’t look like they’re going to make any sort of run. Carolina looking like a lock for the ECF and the way they’re playing, might be the team representing the East in the Finals.

The well ran dry and Carolina capitalized. Funny how the Islanders got so far by just being the team that wouldn't let you score on them, then would hope Barzal or Eberle would be hot. Also funny how they chanted "We don't need you," at a guy who scored 47 goals this year.
I don't like betting against Carolina with how well they're playing, and predicting anything in this playoffs has been impossible (except Leafs/Bruins Game 7) but I really think whoever comes out of CBJ/Boston is going to crush them.
And how about Dallas?? I thought St Louis would have such an easy time with them! I want Bozak to win a Cup, yo!

I think the lack of star power left in the NHL playoffs right now is bad news for NHL as a whole.
I still think Boston handles its business and wins the whole thing.
