Watching some coverage on NFLN right now .... and have an important question about Trevor Lawrence.
Has their been a successful “modern” quarterback with long hair? It’s a red flag for me.

It's about time the long hair male demographic is represented by a QB of similar follicle stature.

Getting back to Lawrence though, dude is pretty weird looking isn't he? The best way I can describe it is that his face is too big for his head.

Quarterbacks needs to have that look and he ain’t got it.

Colin didn't have a fro when he was drafted. I know this. Nobody gave a crap about him then either. But pduh wanting a QB with a fro and a beard as a 49ers fan just felt like a fitting time for that comment. Apparently this is not the place for a LULZ but sponsored by Head & Shoulders.

Found my first official crush of the 2021 draft and the guy I want the Packers to take: Kadarius Toney from Florida. I understand he has his faults and isn't going to come in and light up the league his first year but he provides EXACTLY what I think the Packers could use on offense. Speed on the jet sweep motion , insane run after catch ability (and KR/PR ability) and someone who could really take advantage of playing in the slot.
If we don't take him , I'm officially declaring for the 4th year in a row that Goot is the worst GM ever.

Toney was on MTS a couple of episodes ago UT - you might want to give that a listen.
I've been reading that this draft is deep with playmaking wide receivers which is great news for the Giants. It sounds like there are going to be some deep threat types available in the later rounds, so I wonder if that influences the decision to maybe go with Pitts at 11 rather than Smith or Waddle.

I'll give it a listen for sure @admin , I just been reading scouting reports and watching his tapes and he seems like the exact type player we've been missing. He's not a straight line guy like MVS but he seems like a significantly more explosive Randall Cobb. Percy Harvin has been a comp too but he might have more straight line speed. Also if we let Jones walk - he could replace a lot of those reps out of the backfield. I hear too this is a deep receiver draft , but I just want a potential difference maker. I'm sure offensive line will also get a long look but we have one of the best OL coaches in he league and I feel can develop someone faster. I don't know what to make of the Giants yet. Receiver as you said is obvious , and I still don't think the line has ever been fixed for you either. Packers could also go corner. Inside backer. Defensive line (depending on Watt). For a team with back to back years in the title game - we have some holes to fill. Obviously Covid sucks beyond football but it also kind of screwed us in the cap situation. Hopefully they get the TV deal done before the league year and it expands the cap some.

Definitely agree that it sounds like a great fit. You could see flashes of how effective the jet sweep could be in the Packers offence when they ran it with Tyler Ervin but he's obviously not someone you can rely on as a regular contributor.
Giants offensive line is still definitely an issue but I don't know if you can justify using the first round pick there two seasons in a row. Maybe if they sign one of the FA receivers like Robinson or Golladay, but I'm not sure that makes a lot of sense salary wise.

Chris Simms put out his QB rankings today. Worth more than a pinch of salt as his evaluations have proven to be impressively accurate from the last few classes:
1. Zach Wilson 2. Trevor Lawrence 3. Mac Jones 4. Kellend Mond 5. Justin Fields 6. Trey Lance

I’m no guru but it’s seems quite contrarian to put Wilson at top at this point.

I’m no guru but it’s seems quite contrarian to put Wilson at top at this point. It is, but he's had similar opinions in the past that have proven to be accurate. He ranked Herbert over Tua last year and Josh Allen over Baker and Darnold in 2018 - you can see he rates the guys with the elite arm talent highly and that's probably why he likes Wilson over Lawrence.

For sure and I mean to each their own and he has the track record. Just also seems like it gets more eyeballs on him too.
I don’t have an opinion either way , but Lawrence is in the same class of Luck as can’t miss QBs. Hope they both succeed.
I’ll make sure I check out more Simms though.

Would you guys side with Sam Darnold or jump on the Zach Wilson bandwagon if your the Jets at 2? Consider you get a mid to late 2nd if you deal Darnold giving you 4 picks in the top 55 or so of this draft.

I would rather have
Darnold/Smith Darnold/Chase Darnold/Pitts
Over
Wilson and the shit supporting cast they have.
Plus I think Darnold deserves one last chance.
Unless the Jets truly think that Wilson is a generational type can’t miss QB.

I kinda liked Gregg Rosenthal's argument from the last ATN pod - why bother trading Darnold if the best you can get is a second or third round pick? Keep him and draft Wilson and go from there. Miami showed last season that mature teams with coaches who have control of the locker room can benefit from having two options. Why make your team worse?

Yeah but if you think he’s better than a second round pick that why take a QB at all? You don’t draft a quarterback if you think the QB you have is worth a 1st.
And I strongly disagree with the Miami assessment. Fitzpatrick has been in the league 30 years and was there to be the vet and knows he isn’t the future... Darnold and Wilson have their whole careers ahead of them.
Also what happens if Darnold wins the job and is good? Wilson gets traded next year?
Vice versa if Wilson wins ... you hold onto Darnold to trade him for more diminished value next year?
Not too mention they would only be eating into each other’s reps and prep all year long and the evaluations would just become even messier.
Make a choice and own it.

I think no matter where Darnold is playing, that 5th year option at that price gets declined and if Darnold has a good year, he can settle on a smaller 3 year deal with whoever he is with the chance to still cash in at say age 28 the next time he hits FA if he at all finds the way. For a team to give up a 2nd round pick or whatever the cost is, tells me they think he is going to be more than a year investment and you compare Darnold vs the QBs available in round 2 and despite the years of cost controlled, there will be teams out there who will buy in on what if's and see it wasn't all on Darnold these first 3 years. I have come to grips that LeFleur and Saleh will want their QB and I am all in on a new guy in 2021, I just hope we have proper OTAs and preseason to get a feel because not everyone will come out the gates like Justin Herbert did. I agree with UT that it becomes a massive distraction and I think you are missing out on a 2nd round pick which are strongly valuable. Joe Douglas main proponent has been building through the draft, he even said it himself in last week's press conference.

Cornell Powell has been the talk of the town after Clemson's pro day today, because holy hell what a rig. Reminds me of when the internet creamed themselves over DK Metcalf, then everyone decided he couldn't play because he slipped over doing the three cone drill. He won't be drafted in the first few rounds because of his lack of production, but he does a lot of things like his special teams contributions that make him an interesting prospect in the NFL.

Kinda interesting that the assumption that the Bengals would take a lineman at #5 is starting to dissipate. I think it's hard to argue with DJ's rationale that with Jonah Williams and Riley Reiff they are not desperate for a tackle, and there isn't a guard worthy of a top-5 pick in this draft, so they can find an IOL in the later rounds. He's got them taking Pitts in his new mock, after the first four picks are all QBs.
If it does play out like that it will be good news for corner-needy teams like the Eagles and Chargers because of the knock on effects.
