This film has a ton of hype to it. Supposed to be very intense and insanely gory.

In the new 4k Hellraiser boxset for the first four films, the workprint of Hellraiser Bloodlines will be included. Adds 25 minutes to the length and cuts some scenes in the theater release. Said to be significant changes that had to be made for the studio to add more Pinhead, and to cut Angelique and Lemarchand’s stories. One massive change is Angelique and Pinhead are rivals.
This will be Yagher’s cut of the film. He quit after this was rejected refusing to alter the movie as the film already had greatly morphed from what he wanted to make due to changes he needed to make to the screenplay as they did not have the budget to film them, and editing it more was just crossing his line. When he saw the cuts he demanded his name be removed.
Just got the script for the workprint and plan to read it this weekend. It was released finally last year. Said to be very ambitious. While this was the true vision, the workprint is the closest to it that we will get.

Shake up for the new Scream. Radio Silence who did the last two films are out and Christopher Landon (Paranormal Activity Marked Ones and Next of Kin director) is in. With Radio Silence out, no word on if Jenna Ortega will return. Melissa Barrera and Mason Gooding are confirmed. But this is looking like it will be a bomb, so I doubt Ortega will take it. Landon only really has a single hit film, Happy Death Day, and everything else he has directed bombed. Stupid. And you can’t really hold Freaky against him considering when it was released and it was a pretty popular and liked movie. Landon can definitely work for Scream, his sensibilities align with the series and his love for horror is clear as ever in Freaky with the homages and Easter eggs. Totally going to bomb though.

With the Hollywood strike could be cancelled outright. Studios will be slashing projects like crazy once the strike breaks and simply move the best forward.
I do hope with no American films being made, they simply bring in a shitload of foreign films to put in the theater. A lot of good horror out there going without US theater releases.

Yeah they will definitely cancel the series outright after 6 was arguably the biggest success since the original. It’ll get made, it’s just a matter of when.
And lord knows the streaming success for Paramount. If they are moving forward with the best , Scream is on that docket.
I also need to remind myself that this is all coming from C , who already claimed at one point Scream VI was “falling apart” with no Neve and others were rumored to follow her departure. None of that happened. The movie was successful and now we repeat the cycle.

Since we are back on the Scream topic, reports are Ortega is not going to be part of it due to conflicts with other projects she is doing and the nearly locked filming schedule for Scream. Strike means when they shoot Scream she likely will be back on Beetlejuice or Wednesday. She is shooting Death of a Unicorn during the strike as it is A24 who is exempt from the strike.
Rumors also they are trying again for Neve. Neve seems easy to cast, just pay her properly.

If all that comes to fruition and Ortega is a complete no show then Neve would definitely ease the blow. Also the star of this series being limited due to schedules isn’t something new - it happened with Neve and Scream 3 and they worked her in. I could easily see something similar with this one if it came to that with Barrera and company carrying the weight.
Ortega is no doubt the breakout star of this franchise now but they managed to build a hell of a cast again and she isn’t the only draw, hell she’s not even the main protagonist, Barrera is, even if they became more of a team by the end of 6.
As long as we stop condemning a director who has proven multiple times he can handle the balance of horror and comedy that Scream has exemplified over decades - it will be fine.

Satanic Hispanics is out. Latino VHS basically. Should rush to streaming.
Filmmakers on it are Mike Mendez (Big Ass Spider), Alejandro Brugués (Juan of the Dead), Gigi Saul Guerrero (Culture Shock), Eduardo Sanchez (The Blair Witch Project), and Demian Rugna (Terrified).
Likely will watch it tonight. All about these themed horror compilations that get real talent involved.

Finished Satanic Hispanics it was good. Eduardo Sanchez did a What We Do in the Shadows style vampire short that was hilarious. Another hilarious one about the story of obtaining a demonic weapon. Other segments were ok, but those two were the standouts.

Watched No One Will Save You. It was exactly what I thought Signs would be. One of the best home invasion style films I seen and one of the best gray alien invasion films I seen. Plot really keeps you guessing too.
Not a bad film at all that went way under the radar.

Was a lot better than I thought it would be. I do not like home invasion films or gray alien films, but loved this. Some pretty creepy parts in this too and great imagery.
Def a good solid horror film IMO that went completely under the radar.

Watched Slotherhouse tonight. It was everything you expect from a movie about a sloth killing sorority girls.
Shockingly not a bad movie at all. Will likely get a cultlike following. Some hilarious kills in it and the sloth is really well done.
Great season for B movies. Talk to Me, Satanic Hispanics, No One Will Save You and this all are worth watching.
Will be checking out It Lives Inside later, the last of the five films released I was interested in.
Notable films still to release before Halloween:
VHS 1985 SAW X Exorcist: Believer Five Nights at Freddy's Suitable Flesh Pet Sematary: Bloodlines Dark Harvest Onyx the Fortuitous and the Talisman of Souls Hell House LLC Origins: The Carmichael Manor

WOW, Saw X is like actually pretty good. The overall story is pretty revenge horror in the Saw style. Traps still the more boring parts of the movie, but these ones were absolutely disgusting as they are in the primitive early design of Jigsaw's work, not the refined later style. And are fair traps again, something that not all of the films did use. Really awesome throwbacks for fans of the series as well and Tobin Bell is just amazing. This film focuses on him as the main character this time. Overall one of the better films in the series, and I think my favorite. Still not a great must see film, but if you are a fan of the early Saw films at least, worth watching. For people who are not fans of the series def is skippable. Amanda is back for this. This is basically her test for whether or not she is ready for Saw II. Hoffman also returns briefly.
They may have also introduced the next Jigsaw.

Watched Haunt tonight, film from few years back. Basically Houses that October Built without the supernatural. Good but not great film about a haunted house where they torture and kill the people in it. Got a bit of You're Next mixed into it that sadly did not really get developed and would have made the film a lot better if it did.

c have you heard of or seen When Evil Lurks? I just learned about it on tiktok and watched the trailer. From what I have read so far it is very disturbing but worth the watch because of the twists and turns. I’m a wuss when it comes to gore (tried watching Terrifier and shut it off because I couldn’t take it) but I am curious how bad this flick is because there’s a lot of buzz and if it’s good I wanna see it. No spoilers though.

When Evil Lurks is on my incredibly long list or shit to watched that dropped in the last few weeks. It is possession horror though so not too psyched about it, as most possession horror tends to disappoint me. System you were the Terrifier fan right? Trailer for Terrifier 3 should be dropping soon. My take on the film is it is very disturbing to people who not ventured much into extreme gore. I skimmed the film to see what the hype was and it is gory, but not on the level of say Begotten, Ichi, Martyrs, Antichrist or even Hostel. It is on the line of extreme horror, but does not cross it IMO. I am guessing this is zoomers first foray into non-mainstream horror due to the word of mouth about how extreme it is. Rarely ranks high when people start to talk general most disturbing horror films though. That all said, I would not be shocked if Terrifier 3 the director does an extreme horror film. Clearly the film was celebrated by zoomers who think it is the most disturbing film made, and if that is what they want, if he easily ramp it up with the taboo scenes that define extreme horror, like eye injuries, needle play or flesh stripping torture. /// Caught Totally Killer tonight and it was hilarious. Horror time travel comedy, where a girl time travels to stop a killer in the 80's to stop that killer reappearing and killing her mom in the present. Sounds like a mess, but was a great slasher film that was a lot of fun. On Prime Video, highly recommend it. Does not reinvent the genre per se, but is just a lot of fun. Also started VHS 1985. Will have a full review later, but so disappointed. There was a fucking betamax tape. BETA!!! But yeah need time to think on this one as it is really weird. Worth a watch like the rest, but the start is rough. It comes together about halfway through the second segment. /// Ok, VHS was interesting. Starts slow and weird. No Wake opens it, but is very hard to follow and ends abruptly. Do question why they presented it the way they did. In the middle of the movie, a second part No Wake airs that explains what happened sort of, but it just did not work for me and with another wrapper already existing this just starts the movie being super confusing. God of Death is the second segment. Starts slow with the Mexico City quake and ends with finding ancient ruins. Standard fair horror. TKNOGD follows this, and is amazing IMO. It is performance art in the style of old Apple hype events. Performer claims techno gods replaced the old golds and using a VR system calls out the techno God and finds it. Finally is Dreamkill, but Scott Derrickson reminding people why he is a master of horror, returning to the style he first used in Sinister. Story is about detectives who are getting tapes of murders, that have yet to happen. Amazing short. Wrapper is by David Bruckner who remade Hellraiser. About a creature in a cocoon being studied. It is not very good until the final segment, when the create emerges and we get Bruckner unleashed. So mixed overall. Can really start this an hour in and not really miss much of value. Everything from TKNOGD on was worth a watch. Most of what came before is kind of skippable.

Ah just realized that Demián Rugna was the one doing When Evil Lurks. This is a wild director. His segment in Satanic Hispanics was really interesting. Basically super, super creative cosmic horror.
So hopefully we get something on par with the Wailing for possession and not American shit possession. Director is amazing, but needs a damn good script.

Fuck it, for better or worse watching Exorcist and Pet Cemetary. Planned to skip both, but want to see if Pet Cemetary does the Wendigo and just how bad Exorcist is given they have a release date already for the second film.
Edit:
Wow Exorcist was shit. How this got a release in theaters and Totally Killer did not is beyond me. So curious of they killed the rest of the trilogy or not.
Cannot wait for Head Full of Ghosts to get a movie to get a good possession story finally.
Will do Pet Cemetary tomorrow most likely, cannot do awful film tonight.

Well Pet Cemetery Bloodlines was better than Exorcist, and actually a good adaptation, but the problem of turning a single chapter of a story into its own movie is the overall context is lost. Even if you saw Pet Cemetery, still would not really get what is going on or understand the true villain of the story as the book laid shit out.
Final review on this one is weird. Like if you read the book it is a damn good movie. If you not read the book, would likely still not understand what is going on at all as just assume people buried in the old cemetery come back to life because it is cursed ground.
Will spoil the shit out of the book since you either read it by now or have not. Villain of the book that did not make the various films is a Wendigo. Any offering it is brought it reaminates, then possesses. As you get near it, it can invade your mind and force you to come to it, as revealed in The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon. This is why despite the cemetery being forbidden, and no one supposed to know about it, people keep bringing it offerings regularly. Those that have no offerings to bring, are simply called to it to be consumed.
But so far appears only as a figure in the mist in the remake despite appearing outright in the book. It mentions that the spirit of a Wendigo is there but never like fleshes out what is going on. This film even rubs salt into the wounds so to speak by showing a sculpture of the Wendigo itself, as King described it, without referencing what it is at all, just using it as a weird item someone sees on a counter.
