Studio shelling out big money for this to not let the Scream train die. Works out great too as Radio Silence went on to do Abigail instead of this and Abigail looks amazing. Moreso for what started as a remake of Dracula's Daughter.

Tossed in the nerd thread, but will add here too. Alien is back, and will be a straight out horror film this time.

The First Omen is pretty good and a worthy prequel to The Omen. Has the same atmosphere and feeling of dread and the finale slots perfectly to the start of The Omen. However the plot gets a bit muddy and murky at times, and not everything makes sense.

Just watched Late Night with the Devil, absolute banger of a low budget film. It is like what you get if you mixed Ghostwatch, Pontypool and 1408. Highly recommend this one.
Great day for horror as Love Will Tear Us Apart and Abigail also release.

Abigail was fantastic. Basically a William Castle style story in the style of Ready or Not. For what started as a shitty Dracula's Daughter remake that was meant to be a sequel to Dracula Untold, Radio Silence really polish this into a fun film.
Wonder what is next from Radio Silence. Only seem to be attached to Escape From New York, which has been stalled entirely for two years now.

Abigail was a lot of fun indeed. I didn't know it was a horror comedy going on so I was a bit put off by the corny acting but then it clocked.
Loved the way the vampires exploded

Great day for horror as Love Will Tear Us Apart and Abigail also release. I'm hoping to watch Late Night with the Devil, at some point this weekend. Same with I Saw The TV Glow. Also, ended up going to a midnight premier for Tarot last night with the Wife.

So waiting to catch I Saw the TV Glow. It should be interesting at the very least. We're All Going to the World's Fair was so weird. All reviews are saying it is an amazing surrealistic horror film.
Then end of the month we get In a Violent Nature that got a ton of rave reviews.

Longlegs had another showing with rave reviews coming out of it comparing it to Silence of the Lambs.
Watching I Saw the TV Glow now so will have something up for that later. It is def weird, but not as weird as We're All Going to the World's Fair. Somehow missed Fred Durst being in it.

Ok wow that was a film.
So first all original reviews and summaries of the film I read were wrong. No clue why they said it was a film about believing a show they were watching was about their lives as that clearly was not where this all went.
Film is basically a hard, hard tribute to David Lynch, particularly Twin Peaks. Follows a guy and girl obsessed with a TV show that is like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, where the girl's obsession starts to cross a line and she believes that the world of the show is real and they can get to it. Very low budget, dialogue heavy film about escaping reality through obsession.
A lot more traditional of a film than We're All Going to the World's Fair and A Self-Induced Hallucination, but one that captured perfected the themes introduced in them. Still not at the point where it will have mainstream appeal, but can see Jane Schoenbrun moving in a direction that is easy to process. This time she used a coming of age shell and great soundtrack for her Lynchian story.
Downside is ultimately the story takes a logical path that ends on a dull note, then using a Lynchian style mindfuck to close. IMO did not hit the mark it needed to. Like they knew they needed a better ending but could not really think of one, so went with this instead.

I just saw, that there is a movie called Bloodline Killer, which was released at the end of April. Now, I can't imagine the acting is all that great, especially when Tyrese Gibson is the best actor in the film (and features soap star actor(s)), but damn if the movie poster doesn't pique my interest

They better pray that 1 is a hit, as 2 and 3 are shot. Not much to do to course correct if 1 bombs outside of kill the sequels. Lot of faith to put in someone who's last big hit movie was Cliffhanger and random TV sitcom writers.
Either the script is pure genius or this is gonna be a disaster.

On the off chance anyone cares hunted down A Self-Induced Hallucination. Jane Schoenbrun's first film that was made from youtube footage about slenderman. Obviously heavily influenced her next project, We're All Going to the World's Fair. Covers the slenderman killing stuff, along other parts of the legend. Everything presented as is with no guiding narrative. When Schoenbrun finished this she just uploaded it for free online, but got taken down for copyright claims, which is why it has no official release, nothing was ever cleared for use. Pretty interesting way to drop a debut film though, and it is pretty creepy the way she presents the slenderman mythos.

We're All Going to the World Fair is so much darker after seeing A Self-Induced Hallucination. Rewatched it tonight. Schoenbrun is the master of shared delusion stories.

Woah, didn't know we had a horror thread...half my movie reviews have been misplaced lol Just watched Late Night with the Devil, absolute banger of a low budget film. This is still one of my top films of the year, you're making me wanna watch it again. It's such a unique twist on found footage/possession genres. Loved everything about this movie. Ok wow that was a film. So first all original reviews and summaries of the film I read were wrong. Like they knew they needed a better ending but could not really think of one, so went with this instead. I've read that the supposed intent of the film is to replicate what it feels like to be trans. Personally couldn't make it to the end, got too tired. I did like the visuals/score though, it had a dream-like quality that was captivating.

The Night House (2020)
Excellent supernatural horror film. Keeps you guessing until the very end, it's unsettling and scary without relying on jump scares. Not an all time great but definitely worth a watch.
