I’m pumped for this Oilers/Kings game. I enjoy watching Edmonton play but man if they do get through this round (and they should) they are going to have their hands full with Vancouver. Especially if McDavid is not putting up assist numbers. He needs to take over games in that series. Major round coming up for him.
I’m pumped at the possibility of a Vegas/Colorado series. That would be super fun.
Rangers looking like they’re about to get a sweep while Carolina is doing the same thing to the Islanders but in a gentlemen’s way. Are Carolina New York killers? We’ll find out next round.
The Lightning look like such a good team (to me) on paper, but Kucherov has completely disappeared in the playoffs so far. They’re toast.
Honestly the East is trash compared to the West.

Honestly the East is trash compared to the West. Carolina eliminated the Islanders last year, but the Rangers eliminated Carolina two years ago in game 7 in Carolina (all home teams won their games except game 7). One of the best Rangers game I have ever watched in my life. I agree the West is filthy compared to the East. The East have two of the weakest teams (Capitals and Islanders). Also, you pretty much needed 100 points in the West to make it into the playoffs. That is super rare and ridiculous. With that said, Carolina really is a very tough team. They don't have any superstars that jump out on you, but they are the most complete team in the league. All forward lines and defense pairs are excellent. They even have four goalies that you are comfortable with to start a game. Brind'Amour has done some special things with that team. Any team that eliminates Carolina makes it to the Stanley Cup Final.

The Rangers accomplished so many priorities in round one. The Presidents Trophy "curse" survives round one, no upset. Shesterkin and Panarin both contributed and had an excellent series. The Rangers showed they can play all styles of hockey. Glad to see everyone consistently standing up for each other on the ice. I do think there would have been a lot more Wilson shenanigans if Rempe was not on the ice for every game, but I feel like Panarin can finally get that Wilson monkey off his back.
Capitals only led in the series for over 3 minutes. Rangers never gave them any hope. Other than periods 1 and 2 in game four the Rangers were the better team.
If Chytil is ready to return for round two it will be interesting to see who gets scratched. Rempe seems like an obvious choice, but his presence definitely dissuades the opposing team from going after the Rangers top players. Although Cuylle has quickly become a favorite of mine, I think he will be scratched. He is also in his rookie season, has been scratched before, and has not been contributing recently like earlier in the season. More so I think the Rangers need that Rempe presence. Also, gets the crowd going. However, I do not think the Rangers rush Chytil. I see the same roster starting game one. No need to change it up. Plus being rusty can cause some awful turnovers like Jensen's beer league turnover in the opening minute.
Now this is what gives me some concern moving forward:
1: Way too many turnovers and odd man rushes. This has been a consistent issue for the Rangers all season. They try to force a play instead of being patient for absolutely no reason. 2: Trouba has been slow out there especially in game four.
If the Rangers make those similar mistakes against a better team I do not see them advancing. Remember, Rangers had a gift in round one, which was earned for winning the Presidents Trophy. Ovechkin disappeared and was pretty much benched in game four. And, the Caps best forward in terms of points is Dylan Strome.

I feel bad for the Leafs. Time and time again I always post the same thing. The team is stacked. I would absolutely take this roster and have a good feeling come playoff time. They just can't advance. It sucks because what else can one do to improve that team?

Somebody with more knowledge than me on Florida. How good are they?
I can’t believe the Lightning are going to go down in 5 right now. To top it off, the points leader Kucherov is about to go goalless in this round. He should be ashamed of himself.

And now the Lightning are done. This could be the end of an era, as this may be Stamkos' last appearance in a Tampa uniform.

I feel bad for the Leafs. Time and time again I always post the same thing. The team is stacked. I would absolutely take this roster and have a good feeling come playoff time. They just can't advance. It sucks because what else can one do to improve that team? I'm honestly at a loss with this team at this point. It straight up doesn't make sense. Maybe it is nothing more than Nylander got a concussion late in the season, Matthews is having COVID complications (or something similar), and Marner came back way too early from his ankle injury. Maybe this year would have been different if they were all healthy and playing like they did all season. But we can't assume that because they have been healthy in almost every season prior and had the same results. Matthews gets smothered and can't be impactful, Marner wilts and cries and vanishes until the series is all but over and has one good game before elimination, and Nylander steps up but can't carry the team by himself. The power play usually struggles, which has been the difference in this Boston series, but how do you fix that when you have that much goal scoring? Is it coaching? They have tried 3 different power play coaches in the last 5 years. Steve Dangle said it in his video after the game 4 loss: maybe these guys just don't have it. At some point every perennial playoff team finds that extra gear that gets them over the hump. They don't always win the Cup, but they at the very least look like contenders. They figure it out. Every team in the last 10 years that has made the playoffs most of the time has had at least 1 or 2 deep runs. Except Toronto. I'm hopeful that the new MLSE CEO is who people say he is and he isn't going to put up with this shit. Apparently he is very driven by team success and was a big advocate for doing whatever it takes to win. He wants Toronto sports to be successful. They have the money and backing to be a dynasty and yet here we are. He wants a repeat of the Raptors in 2019 where they shake things up and go all-in, only he wants the team to maintain that success. I think he will do what everyone really wants: fire Brendan Shanahan, and go from there. After that it is open season. Does a big trade happen where they dump camp and find a proper starting goalie and more scoring depth? Because that's the main thing that needs to happen and after that all bets are off. Somebody with more knowledge than me on Florida. How good are they? I can’t believe the Lightning are going to go down in 5 right now. To top it off, the points leader Kucherov is about to go goalless in this round. He should be ashamed of himself. Florida blows my mind. They were an OT goal away from being eliminated in 5 games last year and went to the Cup final, and look like they will probably cruise there again this year. I don't know what that team did to find that kind of fight but whatever it was I wish Toronto had that. A big thing with Florida is that Sergei Bobrovsky remembered how to play goal. When he is on he is one of the best goalies on the planet and he has been that for the past two seasons. When you have a goalie that good, you can play more aggressive and take more chances that will fuck with the other team. Boston is a good example of this. Basically Florida is a younger, faster Boston at this point. Amazing goalie, tough as nails forwards, every line can score, defence is fast and can smother you.

With the salary cap involved I really like the Leafs depth. Lots of grinders. And, second in the league in goals for.
I don't watch Leafs games so I'm no expert. I can't imagine the reason is because the Leafs players don't have it come playoff time. Everyone wants to win the Cup. Leafs have not had an elite goaltender in a while, but I just read the last 11 Leafs playoff games the Leafs scored 3 goals once. Can't put that on the goalie. Plus, the Leafs have zero cap space. With that said, the Oilers eventual downfall will be their goaltending in combination with a defensive/depth filled opponent to shutdown McDavid and Draisaitl.
Without Matthews or a depleted Matthews tough tough time to have that. I'm tired of the Bruins. Hopefully the Leafs can pull it off.

Florida is like the Carolina Hurricanes except they have superstars in forwards (Barkov, Tkachuk), defense (Ekblad), and goaltending (Bobrovsky). A Carolina/Florida Eastern Conference Final is the very likely match up. Speaking of Tkachuk, Florida is the absolute clear winner in that trade. Huberdeau has dropped off dramatically.

Without Matthews or a depleted Matthews tough tough time to have that. I'm tired of the Bruins. Hopefully the Leafs can pull it off. To me these two statements contradict each other. The Leafs are built to score their way out of trouble, and when they can't score, they are fucked. It's happened almost every playoffs so far. It's why they have lost their last 6 home playoff games. It's why Matthews, Marner & Willy were bitching each other out on the bench last game. I've been watching the same movie for 7 years. Absolute beasts in the regular season, absolute ghosts in the playoffs. Zach Hyman has as many goals as the Maple Leafs do this playoffs so far. The Leafs are 1 for 15 on the power play. Half the cap is spent on guys that are supposed to put up points and when Game 1 hits they just disappear. And unfortunately goaltending matters come playoffs because when things get tight and mistakes become minimal, you need to know the guy behind you is going to make a save or two to bail you out. The Leafs hoped after last season that Sammy was their guy but he fell off this year, somehow recovered, and has now fallen off again. Last year they were out-played by Tampa but managed to win because Samsonov stood on his head in most of the series, especially game 6. Tampa should have won that game 6-1 but Toronto pulled out an OT win and the series victory because Sammy stopped everything that came at him. Then they ran into Florida and every mistake they made ended up in the back of the net. Woll replaced Sammy for game 4, the Leafs won, then they blew game 5 and the series was over. They are almost certainly going to repeat that this year. Woll will likely start tonight, the Leafs might pull out a win, but they'll either blow it in game 6 or game 7 if it even gets that far. Obviously I hope I'm wrong but they have given me no evidence to feel otherwise.

Jets going out this soon makes me sad. That team deserved better. I'm legit shocked.
Fucking NHL playoffs are so unfair with the current setup. Love seeing a 100+ point team go out with one playoff game win. Ridiculous.

Tough loss for the Canucks. Everything was going fine, until that unfortunate goal in the 3rd that tied the game.
Hope they don't blow this series.

There had to be sacrifices made for the Maple Leaf to win an elimination game without Auston Matthews.
The Jets were it.

Toronto with a 16-1 SOG difference half way through this game is insane. What’s even more insane is they’re 0/3 on PP so far and the score is still 0-0.
Might have been the perfect game for Auston Matthews.
