I can't do this again. My body can't take it. Bruins fans have the same feeling with some de ja vu after last season. This is my problem. Whenever all signs point to the Leafs winning, they lose, and vice versa. Dominating and winning games 5 and 6 without Auston Matthews is a perfect example. They are the weirdest team on planet Earth. Then again, I did not expect them to win last night. I thought they would follow up a big win by choking away a close game at home like they almost always do. They proved me wrong so I hope they do again tomorrow night. I just don’t know if I can physically sit down and watch the game. I have had 17 heart attacks since Tuesday. When they blew a double minor power play I just laid down on the floor and waited to hear “Pastarnak scores,” on the TV. But it never came. When Willy scored I almost ran through a wall. Tomorrow might kill me, win or lose.

I learned something new today.
I learned the Golden Knights are very VERY hated in the NHL community. Apparently they pulled some Scheisty roster shenanigans with Mark Stone and his injury.
I really want them to win tonight so we get a Game 7 between them and the Stars. This has been the best series right now.

Canucks/Oilers in Round 2.
Should be a dandy. I got Edmonton in six.

Vancouver/Edmonton and Colorado/whoever are both going to be such great series to watch. Crazy how gambling has turned me into a hockey fan but I like this shit. I’m having more fun watching a scoreless Stars/Knights match up right now than the Dallas/Clippers game. Hope the Knights win so we get a Game 7. Or this could be a Dallas closing night with both the Stars and Mavs winning their respective series.
Whatever happens, I just hope the WCF is Colorado vs Edmonton. It needs to be McKinnon vs McDavid. That would be good for the NHL too. It could finally be the Oilers year. Especially considering Hyman has really turned it up a notch this season and could arguably be better then Rantanen right now.

Last time Edmonton and Vancouver faced each other in the playoffs, was the 1992 Smythe Division Final.

Real quick explanation: the NHL has a hard cap. You straight up cannot go over the cap with your roster. The league will force teams to cut players, send people down, not approve signings/trades, etc. However if you have a player on LTIR, their contract goes with them and is taken off your salary cap. So Mark Stone's salary went to LTIR with him when he ruptured his spleen, and Vegas was allowed to use that space. The only problem is if you use that space, you can't bring that player back onto your active roster without making room. And if the player is healthy enough to come back, the league is supposed to investigate and force the team to make moves to allow that player to come back off LTIR. But that never happens. Basically the NHL makes incredibly strict rules about the salary cap then does nothing to actually enforce them. So teams get away with shenanigans all the time and fans are left going "well why the fuck do we have all these rules then?" It's a weird situation. Teams are forced to get creative to compete with a hard cap in place, and so things like this have been happening, specifically players with big contracts suddenly getting injured right before the trade deadline, missing the rest of the season, then miraculously recovering right before Game 1 of the playoffs. Vegas isn't the first. Tampa Bay did the same thing with Kucherov the year they won their 2nd Cup. Then Kucherov wore a t-shirt to the parade that said "18 million over the cap." Somehow fans were less mad at that than they are at Vegas and I don't know why. They're literally copying what Tampa did and nobody got mad at Tampa. I dunno. The Leafs could have done the same thing when Mitch Marner injured his ankle, but because he got moved to LTIR after the trade deadline and not before, they couldn't do anything to replace him. That was frustrating. $11 million bucks in cap space and the Leafs can't do anything with it because the deadline passed. They could have kept that player or players on their roster AND had Mitch Marner back for the playoffs. Round 2 starts before round 1 ends I have not seen that before. It happened in the Bubble Season. Leafs/Habs went to game 7 and they started round 2 the night before that game. I guess they decided that was a good idea to keep doing if series end early enough. It makes sense when you have this many series end early. Allows you to stagger things a bit and give the teams that go 7 games a bit more rest. Although I guess they aren't doing that since whoever wins tonight plays Florida Monday. I assume whoever wins tomorrow plays Tuesday. At least they better if that is the case. I also read that part of the reason they are starting the series tomorrow is because the Knicks advanced and has to do with MSG scheduling.

I’m going to scream.
Moments after it is announced that Matthews is likely to play tonight, there are rumours that Woll won’t be.
I am actually going to lose my mind.

They could have kept that player or players on their roster AND had Mitch Marner back for the playoffs. Salary cap is not counted for the playoffs. Plus, teams call up a third goalie and a couple of extra players from the minors to travel with the team in case of injuries. As you will see in the box score of games every team has a lot of healthy scratches compared to the regular season. I guess the whole idea with LTIR is your team will not be good enough if they lose a star player during the regular season. I certainly remember last year the Rangers were in cap hell with the addition of Kane and had to make ridiculous roster moves and were shorthanded for at least a game so the NHL was on top of them during that stretch.

And I'm so steamed.
Nearly 30 years I followed the team, and now I'm starting to question my support for Toronto.
I think I've finally reached the boiling point with them.

I thought the Leafs had this one. Not only a comeback in the series, but they really dominated the Bruins that I have not seen in at least a decade. 3 shots on goal in half a game never seen that.
So many storylines surrounding the Leafs and game 7. Matthews, Samsonov, The Bloodline.
Samsonov brilliant performance. Talk about pressure. Only reason he was in the net was because Woll was injured otherwise his starting job was gone. Lots of top saves. Gave the Leafs a chance to win. His team let him down on the overtime goal.
So last year every Leafs playoff game I either had a cup of coffee with my Leafs mug or a beer in my Leafs pint. Didn't work out. This year both the mug and pint glass remained in the cabinet. I thought that was the difference maker especially with the Leafs epic comeback to game 7.
