Biden did try to fix the asylum process greatly with a GOP crafted bill. Trump demanded it be killed. Would have moved most asylum seekers back home within six months, as opposed to the 15 or so years it takes now, and provided rapid deportations for those not following the system.

The Senate GOP plan would have solved a lot of it really fast. But the House GOP and Trump did not want Biden to get a win on immigration.
The GOP wants to keep asylum right now as it is, so they always have something to blame the democrats for. Enacting that plan would have eventually ended the immigration problem as we know it. Allowed instant deportation for people not following the system, would have eventually cleared the backlog of asylum claims being processed, and stopped many making false claims from even entering the 15 year case review wait. Gave the GOP most of what they wanted, but they know once they solve it, they can never run on it again. Also would have allowed near instant correction on immigration in the future as modifying the new program would have been simple.

The whole migrant thing was a scam and an attempt by the communist left to get new voters in. They are losing the African American and Latino votes and since that is trending down, they tried to sneak in new voters to replace them. It’s not racist. It’s common sense. They can’t vote. And as evidenced by every Trump lawsuit being swatted down, there’s nothing that indicates wide-spread voter fraud. But … they still shouldn’t be here. My point is they’re trying and they’ll keep trying. You think the government gives a fuck about people from other countries? They barely give a fuck about people from their own country. It’s all a chess game and the lunatic left are trying to add new pieces to the game. From Politico: “The 2022 law has not yet gone into effect, since it faced immediate legal challenges. It sought to let green card holders and other people living in New York City with federal work authorization to vote in local elections for offices including mayor and City Council — applying to some 800,000 new eligible voters in a city of 8.5 million. Championed by progressive Democrats, supporters said the “Our City, Our Vote” bill would make politics more representative, and the city more inclusive for immigrants. Opponents — mostly Republicans — said it would turn into a logistical nightmare leading to voter fraud, and that Democrats only wanted to shore up their numbers.“

For the record though, Trump and Republicans don’t give a fuck either. The two sides just don’t give a fuck about different issues.

Nothing from Progressives applies to federal elections though.
And if the people are working and paying taxes in a place, why should they not also have a vote? Didn't we have a whole war over this very topic.

That’s like me purposely spilling milk on the floor just to mop it up and tell my wife “see I help around the house.” They have a right to come in due to the asylum laws we have. Biden wanted to speed up the asylum process so a decision would be made within six months, in alliance to the Senate GOP plan. House and MAGA GOP killed that to keep the current system we have where on average decisions are made in 15 years. GOP has no intention of changing out asylum policy or practices in a legal way. And having people stay in Mexico while seeking asylum in the US is just not legal for non-Mexicans. Mexicans can be told to remain in Mexico but you cannot demand Mexico take in Haitians waiting for US asylum claims for instance for on average 15 years. Also why the wall is stupid. If you wall the border, they can make asylum claims in ports, and if that becomes easier that is where they will go. To make a claim of asylum you basically just present to a US authority figure. Southern border became the defacto place to do it, but they can use ports, airports or the Canadian border as well. And this is a legal process which under the plan the GOP want to keep gives them the right to stay in the US until their court case, on average 15 years later.

We are facing the same here. I don't trust any government anymore. Not left, right or in between. I feel like they are all out of touch. The biggest issue is all the systems need to be revamped as they are either going backwards or not dealing with the realities of today: electoral, immigration, justice, healthcare, etc. All the rest is fallout from our systems failing.
I am pro immigration especially in Canada where we don't have a large population like the US, BUT even I need to concede that something needs to be done as we don't have enough affordable housing or supports here right now to support more immigrants. Also, we need to think of things like mental health, especially when there are immigrants coming from war torn countries. We don't know what they've been through and if they've suffered PTSD, etc. I also think there needs to be a law that if you break the law here (more to do with violent crimes) within 5-10 years, you go back. The lack of consequences for people's actions these days are what's leading to much of this chaos.

The law as it works now is you can make a claim for asylum at the border. You do not have to prove your claim until the court date. The courts are so understaffed and backed up that your first court date generally is in four and a half year. Not sure why I was thinking 15, maybe thinking green card. But until you go before a judge, you are now granted legal temporary asylum in the US, which means you can also work. www.nbcnews.com/news/latino/asylum-seekers-are-limbo-years-immigration-backlog-rcna87228Fantastic series by the formerly cancelled Channel 5 on the border. Andrew did a series of videos ending with him getting arrested by the border police. One thing he found is people are exploiting the asylum process to come to the US for several years to work using the same general stories that are being coached by coyotes who know the system. If you have a reasonable fear of violence, you can get asylum here so everyone is claiming that, whether or not that fear is rational and warranted. Not sure what video it is where he gets into it. The Biden plan would have fixed this by staffing the courts heavily and mandating a hearing within 6 months. And increasing the threshold from having a fear of violence to being at risk of imminent violence I believe. As it stands now though even if you lose your hearing, coming here you get those 4.5 years while waiting for court date. So many will come work heavy and live cheap, then take the cash back when deported. And when all converted back to their old currency, make out very well by doing so. Andy def found a lot of shady shit of interest to both sides here, from the weird way migrants are transported to questionable "fears of violence." Also exposed some of the myths like migrants coming over in designer shit that really is cheap knockoffs. And like if people are not into Channel 5, now a good time to check him out. His new shit is unreal. Post cancelation he been doing a lot less fun stuff, and more legit dangerous hard journalism stuff. The inner city crime stuff is just as good. He explored some of the drug areas of cities where the police are letting drug use in open areas go, and fuck it is dark. Also covered tranq and the US should def learn fast about this as it is another drug that rots flesh that is taking hold. Anyway think this was the first border video. May be an Eagle Pass one before this. But then one in migrant roundout, one in Mexico with coyotes, then one about his arrest for illegally crossing the Rio to get back to the US. He does get political at times, but Andy is a centralist and hates media spin in both directions.

You have to prove you’re a refugee; you don’t just get to show up and say you are one, and that’s that. This is the point, if people want to apply for asylum they should do it before they enter the country not after. If you enter the country without having being granted asylum you are by definition an illegal immigrant. We have a simple law in Australia that ended our flow of illegal imigrants. Enter our country without applying for asylum first and you can NEVER be settled in Australia no matter what the courts find. If you are found to have a valid claim you will be moved to a 3rd nation such as Vietnam or Thailand. Most asylum seekers are economic migrants. Saying they are going to control this with the courts is total lies. You need to not let them across and if they come across you return them immediately. There have been millions of border crossings, the idea that you are going to process them all in courtrooms is such a nonsense that I don't think anyone could suggest it as an option with a straight face. The US has the right to a secure border.

The US laws require you to present at a port of entry or within the US itself to make an asylum claim. The border is a port of entry, and most present immediately because as soon as they do they are given temporary asylum status until the court rules on their case, and soon after doing so they can legally work in the US. Sure some do not, but when they are tagged they are instantly deported and few will hire them. You cannot make a claim of asylum from Mexico or your host country now that the rule regarding COVID has expired. www.uscis.gov/humanitarian/refugees-asylumIf people want to secure the US border and stop this then they need to first change the law to allow claims from outside of the US and stop demanding people come here first to make a claim. The right wing media is complaining about people following the US laws for this process knowing most people will never do a basic google search to find out how it works. And congress bitches about it rather than actually try to pass any sort of law to change the system. Biden's bill would have only allowed asylum if you applied first to the countries you traveled through and were denied. Which would mean anyone coming through the Mexican border would first have to apply for Mexican asylum, and be denied, before being allowed legally into the US to make a claim. GOP refused to have a vote on it. Biden looked into executive ordering this, but without congressional action, it would not legal as per prior Supreme Court rulings on the matter.

That's the stupid part of the law. Require all asylum seekers to file before entering the country.
Anyone who enters the country without filing first and receiving a preliminary acceptance will never be allowed to settle in the country.
Everybody knows that they're not asylum seekers crossing the Southern border. I say it again putting millions of illegals through the courts system simply can't work, it's fanciful.

Our asylum program was designed for refugees and had been for decades. Refugees do not have the luxury of pre-filing for asylum. And I fully support the right for true refugees to flee here if their country is being destroyed.
And yeah, a lot of people crossing are economic opportunists abusing the asylum system, but again, Biden tried to fix that and the GOP shot it down.
Courts until the law is changed is the only way to fix this, and was something that could be done in a funding bill. Everyone who claims asylum has the right to a hearing for their claims, so if we want to deport the opportunists we need to speed up the time it takes for them to make their claims in court, where they can be denied officially and deported. If the GOP really wanted to fix things, they would change the law. Instead we got MTG asking for funding for a space laser to police the southern border. That is how unserious they are about finding a real solution.

People who are here legally, and who may be on the path to citizenship (you can't just declare it, after all) might be able to vote in extremely limited, very local capacities.
To be clear, I understand why one would vote against it. But it's not exactly bussing illegals to the polls to vote left.

So the only realistic option is to process the claims. As for those rapists and terrorists, they can enter the ports easier than the border. The people who document the border all say the vast majority of people they see look for the crossings where they know the border patrol is on the other side so they can make their claims. Look into what people label as real security threats, it is not the borders either, it is the ports. We have cameras, plus aerial and naval surveillance on the southern border. Got jack shit on most posts. And almost all private airfields operate entirely in the dark.

Over the past few years here I have been accused of being alt right, a boot licker of Trump and all manner of nasty things. Whatever, I have thick skin. If you don't want to watch the whole video, just watch the last minute. Maher doesn't realise it yet, but like Musk and Rogan he's a traditional left wing voter who now finds himself centre right without moving at all. The statistics on crime in Scandinavia are horiffic. When I saw the pro Gaza protests in London with hundreds of thousands of Muslims praying in the streets it was worrying. Now it looks like we are seeing the first signs of the pendulum of public opinion starting to swing back... But it may be too late. My hottest take is that the sign of a weak mind is someone more concerned with finding the consensus and aligning to it rather than evaluating the facts. by the time I'm 45 seconds in:
- 14 of the most air polluted North American 15 cities are in Canada. If only there were some reason why the air quality might be degraded -- nope, must be progressive policies.
Unemployment rate: KindasortamaybesureIguess, with the caveat that how unemployment is measured varies, and not sure if he's counting American underemployment - those who, technically yes, do have jobs but their hours are capped pretty severely.
This may or may not reflect in his housing prices stance - sure, it may cost more but are people getting paid more? Is it fair to compare averages at a full country to country level, which includes bustling cities, dying cities, suburban sprawl, rural areas?
"Teacher announces as trans, wears shockingly gigantic boob-bodysuit to work, sparks outrage, and is now back to being a middle aged looking dude" Perhaps this person is a bad faith actor who saw a chance to get fired and sue for discrimination? Which, okay, I guess is a problem but not the problem Bill wants to say it is.
And the meat of what you address -- the last minute of his video -- you're right, it is not racist to say that Somali gang warfare in Sweden lowers the quality of life because Somali gangs, but what's racist is the conclusion you are meant to draw from it, which he curiously does not mention at all.
What is the solution to this problem, Bill? SAY IT. SAY IT OUT LOUD. SAY WHAT YOU THINK SWEDEN SHOULD DO HERE. is that starting to sound kinda racist?

He actually addresses your exact point, he says it is racist... And still correct. It's odd how for so many years "diversity is our strength" was accepted as true. Nothing is made automatically better by being randomly diversified. Not all cultures integrate, to build something together there is a required common foundation of what a society should be before you can build together. If you have a reasonably healthy and flourishing society should it be a goal to diversify even if it will be measurably worse by every metric other than diversity? This is a worry as we have for the first time cultures that refuse to integrate. People who arrive and send their kids to segregated religious schools, restrict their freedoms and tell them who they can marry. The elimination of religious schools of all persuasions needs to happen if our society is to have any chance.

The problem with people like C is he doesn’t actually give a shit what happens to this country. He never leaves his room, he has no job, government pays for him, he has no significant other to protect, no children that he wants to have a safe and good future. It’s why he’s a leftist maniac. He wants carnage. He wants to see the “white man” mad because LULZ. He wants people to cross the border. Nobody is going to get him because he’s in his room on discord and PW posting articles all day. He has nobody he loves to the point where he worries about the well being of the land he lives in.
It sounds harsh but it’s the reality. The fucked up part is we let these kind of people get more say and power on things they do not contribute to. Cancelling people, getting people fired, blocking highways when people are trying to go to work. We gave them this power when they give absolutely nothing to society.

Numbers are not racist.

Well, shit....

The solution to the southern border is not to process claims quicker, it's to stop people crossing the border... That's it, full stop. It's crazy that I have to fill out paperwork to enter the USA next year from Australia while literally ANYONE can be wondering over the Southern border whether they be serial rapists or terrorists... You wouldn't even know. You are destroying your country. And that requires congress to act. Congress has no intention of changing things to end refugee asylum. It would require literally no congressional action whatsoever to close the flow of migrants into the USA. The law already provides the USA the right to stop people entering the country. They can't file for asylum if they can't enter. If you don't have a border you don't have a country. This is the point though, the hard left wants a border less hell scape it is exactly the socialist utopia they crave. I saw it the other day that someone said that socialists would rather everyone equally in poverty and starving than everyone better off with some better off than others. It's a vicious and insidious ideology and I don't know why it's being accepted.

The US been this was since our founding. One of our best known natural monuments is a testament for open borders and our policy on refugees.
Sure could move to a choke point system, but the supreme court has ruled they have the right to make claims, and the right to enter afterward as our laws grant temporary asylum from the time a claim is made, and the court hearing. Only immigration judges are allowed to rule on asylum cases, and now at a million applications to process a year. Hence needing judges. GOP keeps a purposely broken system to give them an issue to endlessly argue about. 30 years they been complaining about it, but everytime they had a mandate they failed to propose any solution.
And again, block the border, they will simply take boats to the nearest minor port, or fly to the nearest private airfield and just walk in since there are no checkpoints in unofficial ports of entry. Supreme court has ruled that anyone who gets in illegally can still make a claim as per current law. Again Biden wanted to change this, but GOP is not allowed a vote on it.
Furthermore a choke point system will merely change where people enter anyway. Most are crossing right now in places were the border patrol is, to spend the least amount of time in the US before a claim is made, as they are coached to do by the cartels. Could spend billions on walls, arm them with laser turrets and shark filled moats and see the migrants coming over merely drop 1%.
Want reform, need to systematically change the system. Like Biden proposed. Increase the threshold to make claim, and speed up the processing of claims so economic opportunists get no benefit from filing a claim they know will be denied. This is why they come though, they know our system is so broken, that even if their claim is total bullshit, they get about 5 years to be in the US legally. And this is the system the GOP wants to keep. They fight tooth and nail against any changes to the foundation of the asylum claim process because their donors rely on these workers as a source for cheap labor.
Part of this all that is not being talked about is the economy of the southern border states would collapse without these people coming over in the millions. From Florida to Arizona they all use cheap migrant labor as the backbones of their economy. Push out the economic opportunists and labor costs will skyrocket.

It's fine to make impassioned claims about refugees, but that has nothing to do with what is happening at the Southern border. You seem like a smart guy, surely you know you can't put all of these people through the courts, unless it's really about making the system break so there's no choice but to grant citizenship and voting rights.

I am not sure how it is bullshit or liberal idealism to claim the United States needs to follow the laws they passed for their own conduct. Say tomorrow Biden said ok that is it no one crosses the border to make an asylum claim, asylum has ended. By monday the Supreme Court will order Biden to halt the order, as the majority of members on the court right now already ruled that asylum seekers have a right to make a claim, and be allowed into the US after.
Again, simple solution is for the GOP to pass a law changing things. They have no laws on the floor of either chamber, and no laws proposed to change asylum. Project 2025 proposes no solutions to this. Trump proposes no solutions for this outside of choking people towards different points of entry with his wall. Under all solutions GOP will still allow millions a year to make asylum claims and stay here until their cases are heard, with the current judicial wait for 4.5 years on average and increasing.
And no laws will be pushed by the GOP as several states need these economic opportunists to keep their cheap labor. This is one of the primary reasons wages are able to be held down in the southern states, there are always people coming into the US that will take jobs at rock bottom wages.
Personally I do not care either way how this plays out. The economic opportunists I will have no pity for since they come in lying about their reasons and people who are fleeing from shit village massacres all look like grifters. In my areas we have a ton of families from Laos who fled from the war after their villages were destroyed and genocides was breaking out all around them. These people should be allowed to come here without struggle. But a guy fleeing from low wages is a different story.
I do believe we have laws for a reason though, and the law should be followed or changed. It should not be applied selectively and bent around with exceptions and pigeon holes. If Congress wants change, fucking do your jobs and change it. Do not go to Fox whining and crying, write a goddamn bill and go out and sell people to pass it.

Can't really start a discussion on this til we're all unambiguously on the same page.
Based off what Bill Maher said, what do you believe the solution to Sweden's problem should be?

How would you judge it? If the numbers show that the vast majority of aggravated rapes are committed by African migrants, does that mean that the data is racist? I would be very clear that anyone who arrives in another country as a refugee or for any other reason and then breaks the law of that country, they should be deported back to their own country, whether or not it is safe for that to happen for the individual concerned. I am even more hardline than that, if someone under the age of 18 continues to break the law, deport them and their family. There was this old thing about life-saving where the first rule is to not drown yourself because then you can't save anyone. If we for well-intentioned reasons turn our countries into lawless hellholes we won't be able to save anyone. This idea that all cultures can integrate together must have come from people who have never travelled anywhere in their lives. You cannot take someone out of a war zone and drop them into a first world country and expect they will magically flourish. Either don't bring them, or expend the money and time necessary to see them embedded into the society.

I don't think anyone is saying that the USA should turn its back on refugees and people in real need. That has ZERO to do with the Southern border. Weird how people cannot see their own ideological bias. I mean someone who is a Second amendment absolutionist, has no trouble with a National ban on abortion or anything else despite the obvious contrary beliefs they have about the constitution. Same deal for the left who hand wring about the constitution when talking about the border. If the US doesn't enforce it's border you won't have a country soon and the South of the USA will end up being something between what it is now and how Mexico is.
