The whole Disney vs DeSantis thing is kind of misleading, but that doesn't surprise me coming from a guy like Bill Maher. He's promoting DeSantis like he's some kind of champion of children's rights in that video, when in reality the reason he started fighting with Disney is because A) he wanted an excuse to remove their special tax status (something that Trump, McCarthy and Haley all disagreed with) and B) the company supported its workers who protested against his anti-LGBTQ & teaching sex ed in schools bills.

DeSantis was (and probably still is) actively working to make it harder for kids and teenagers to protect themselves, and when Disney spoke out against that, he called them all pedophiles.

It's disingenuous to say that DeSantis was speaking out against pedophilia at Disney when that isn't what actually happened. And I don't know a single person that ignored any of those allegations. You see, most people can do two things at once, and most people both want pedophiles & groomers in positions of power removed and punished, and George DeSantis to get eaten by alligators.

If DeSantis was the kind of guy that Maher is trying to make him out to be in that video, he would have done something about the people mentioned in the video, not just thrown a hissy fit and punished the company for disagreeing with him, something that landed him in court and essentially tanked his political career.

People realize Maher is a libertarian right?

And liberals turned on him about 15 years ago. His fan base now is really non-MAGA republicans and blue dog democrats.

It is a real thing.  It is guys dressing in costumes reading to kids.  It is not the same sexy drag as on TV or in clubs that most know.  GOP are the ones trying to make it sexual.  And they do this shit because they cannot lead on real issues.  They had no platform now for 12 years and basically are a pyramid scheme for an old man who several people stated needs to wear adult diapers, including Big Dave.

So when they sneak it into children remakes, only so much you can do as a parent.

I think we are talking about two different things. Pop culture including queer people is just representation. You might not like it but they exist in society, it only makes sense for them to appear in movies and tv.

When I say stop listening to toxic media, I’m saying you would be a lot happier if you just lived your life and stopped worrying about a perceived “threat” just because there are people in the world who are a bit different to you.

Somebody in a local facebook group for a nearby town posted a pic of a book in the public library about a story about a little boy that didn't feel comfortable dressing up in boys clothes he liked wearing girl clothes and putting on makeup, so his parents took him to the doctor and he was diagnosed as transgender. The person that posted the pic of the book in the group did so in the context of "Look how fucked up this is" but 90% of the people jumped on the poster like there was nothing wrong with the book.

Here is what is wrong with the book. What the story should have been about was how the little boy was at an age where people develop all types of sexual behaviors on a subconscious level based on what they are exposed to, he spent a lot of time watching fruity youtube videos on his mommy's phone unsupervised because the stuff that is autofed into these kids videos is all gay toned, it's smeared into the TV and movies in gratuitious ways that have nothing to do with the stories only just political propaganda to divide people and make them fight because we're living in a fake ass fucked up political mind games war zone. Little books like this one in the library, stuff always being filtered into schools and everything. Kids see what other kids are talking about and doing and want to do it too because it's a thing in their consciousness.

Every gay thing I've seen in these kids movies is forced as fuck and unnecessary to the story just politically aimed and motivated. Evil and corrupt to play with kids this way, trying to influence their sexuality in ANY way at their most vulnerable ages, absolutely get the fuck lost with that shit. My son watches The Sandlot and Bloodsport he likes Wendy Peffercorn. I feel bad for the kids that get caught up in political propaganda mind games you can't tell me thats not what the fuck that is.

The only thing I dislike is ruining characters with reimagining of these themes being forced into them. For instance the Velma show having every other joke being some knock on White people and having Daffney and Velma get into a lesbian relationship when the former has always been the love interest of Fred(Who has been dumified on the show). Also changing Shaggy's character entirely changed and Scooby Doo being absolutely nothing like he has always been, it's metacommentary thrown into a kid's show just because. The entire show is suppose to be light hearted and about mystery solving but Mindy Kaling sucks and wants to do this to "piss the haters off".

The Proud Family reboot also fell into this trap of being some obnoxious, borderline racist show. It's embarrassing.

The way LGBTQ+ themes were handled in The Last of Us 1 vs The Last of Us 2 is night & day and why the former is terrific and still holds the tests of time while the latter is panned by plenty of fans of the 1st game. There's a difference between being a gay character who doesn't let that identity overshadow their purpose to the plot vs that being their overall meaning to the plot which is what happened to Ellie in both games. Obnoxious sex scenes and "revenge!" ruined a beloved character in a game that is suppose to be about a post apocalyptic world full of fungi infected humans taking over the world. TLOU2 went and became DeGrassi instead, having the humans take over almost 75% of the game. I haven't watched TLOU Show but I heard the Bill character went on the deep end of things too when it went back to the point that he was a a well written and liked character who happened to be gay in the 1st game.

Shit writing will always be shit writing.

As for gay stuff being forced into kids media, how many gay or trans jokes were in old cartoons? No one bitched when classic cartoon characters crossdressed for a gay or pretended to be gay for a gag. No one screamed that turned a generation gay or trans. Only new media has the power to corrupt, the old media never messed up anybody. Pattern that exists back to Ancient Greece and Socrates denouncing books.

You may be on to something bubba, it's something I always noticed is a HUGe element of football in the USA, something I noticed in little league up through middle school and even covering high school game for a newspaper. I had a coach literally tell me in an interview they were struggling because they didn't have enough black kids on the team, I thought that was the most fucking retarded thing I've ever heard and it honestly kind of pissed me off. I definitely love how JJ Watt and CMC proved all that shit wrong, a lot of great white players probably never even get a chance over that horseshit. Seeing black players openly express this same idea on social media a lot and it's ok so I definitely shamelessly pull for the white guys to prove that stereotype wrong. I don't see any harm in that really.
